Tata’s CCO Vivek Srivastava had earlier confirmed that the Sierra EV will come with single, and dual-motor configurations. Also, as per our sources, we got to know that the Sierra EV will have a 65 kWh battery pack in the base variant, paired to a single-motor powertrain. Here, the claimed range is expected to be around 520 km, which will translate to a real-world range of about 400-450 km.
There will also be a 75 kWh battery pack version, which will be available with a single, as well as dual-motor powertrain. This 75 kWh, single motor setup is expected to have a claimed range of around 630 km. In real-world conditions, this will be around 500 km.
But, for the top-spec Tata Sierra EV QWD (Quad Wheel Drive), this new Tata electric car will get a dual-motor powertrain with AWD (All Wheel Drive) function.Â
And, how is the AWD setup useful? EVs generate all of their peak torque right at the initial throttle input, which in some cases might make the car lose traction. The AWD system distributes the torque evenly across all wheels for a smoother experience. And, as a byproduct, the electric SUV gets more capability when navigating difficult terrain, and gravelly conditions.
