The upcoming Tata Sierra EV’s design was revealed a few days ago, by an official teaser by the brand, where it was seen conquering the desert. In the teaser, the new Tata Sierra EV was seen with specific styling elements like the closed-off grille, sleek-looking connected LED light bars, rectangular head lamps and a thick B-pillar.
The most impressive highlight in Tata Sierra EV’s design is the rear roof-connected quarterglass panel which is inspired by the OG Tata Sierra. While the overall silhouette of the Sierra EV is similar to the ICE version, this new Tata electric SUV looks a lot more futuristic.
As per our speculation, the higher variants of the Tata Sierra EV will get a triple screen layout with a digital instrument console, a centre-mounted touchscreen with essential controls, and a separate passenger display with all the connected tech like Android Auto, and Wireless CarPlay.
Tata’s CCO Vivek Srivastava had earlier confirmed that the Sierra EV will come with single, and dual-motor configurations. Also, as per our sources, we got to know that the Sierra EV will have a 65 kWh battery pack in the base variant, paired to a single-motor powertrain. Here, the claimed range is expected to be around 520 km, which will translate to a real-world range of about 400-450 km.
There will also be a 75 kWh battery pack version, which will be available with a single, as well as dual-motor powertrain. This 75 kWh, single motor setup is expected to have a claimed range of around 630 km. In real-world conditions, this will be around 500 km.
But, for the top-spec Tata Sierra EV QWD (Quad Wheel Drive), this new Tata electric car will get a dual-motor powertrain with AWD (All Wheel Drive) function.Â
And, how is the AWD setup useful? EVs generate all of their peak torque right at the initial throttle input, which in some cases might make the car lose traction. The AWD system distributes the torque evenly across all wheels for a smoother experience. And, as a byproduct, the electric SUV gets more capability when navigating difficult terrain, and gravelly conditions.
The upcoming Tata Sierra EV is expected to get a similar suspension setup as the Tata Harrier EV. At the front, it could get an independent lower wishbone with a Mcpherson strut and coil springs. At the rear end, it could get a multi-link suspension, which will give it more composure, and stability like the Harrier EV. This setup will also help the car get more traction, and is the perfect companion for the QWD setup.
It is also expected to get a Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite, a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a premium JBL infotainment system. Given its pricing, expect 6-airbags, ABS with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), Traction control, Hill-hold control, Cruise control, and ESP (Electronic Stability Program) to be offered as standard equipment for utmost safety.
The Tata Sierra EV will be a mid-size electric SUV, and is expected to feature a 4 or 5-seater layout. It will have around 300 litres of boot space, which could be expanded if you collapse the passenger row seats.
If you are going to charge the Sierra EV at home with a 7.2 kW AC charger, it will take around 10 hours. The same time is cut down to just 30 minutes for a 10-80% charge via a 100 kW DC fast charger.
On the top-end variant, Tata could offer a lifetime warranty on the battery pack, but only for the first owner (same as the new 2026 Tata Tiago EV). We expect Tata to offer an 8-year/1,60,000 km warranty on the motor, and a 3-year/1,25,000 km warranty on the vehicle as a whole package. But, do note that all of these details will be clarified by the brand at the time of the launch.
Tata Motors has a lot of authorised service centres across all the major Tier-1,2,and 3 cities of India, and we don’t think the service centres would be an issue for the Tata Sierra EV. But, what we are skeptical about is the service experience, which could differ from place to place.
