Expert Verdict
The Ather 450X sits in the middle of a three-scooter family that has shaped the sporty end of India’s electric scooter market since the original 450 arrived in 2018. Positioned above the 450S and below the 450 Apex, it shares their chassis, aluminium-cased battery, belt drive and 22-litre boot, but adds a 7-inch touchscreen, a stronger 6.4kW motor, quicker acceleration and a longer list of rider aids over the standard 450S. Two battery sizes are on offer, 2.9 kWh and 3.5 kWh, with certified ranges of 126 km and 161 km, respectively.
On price, the 450X opens roughly level with the River Indie and, with the 3.5kWh battery and the optional AtherStack Pro software pack, climbs above the TVS iQube ST, the Ola S1 Pro+ and the Simple One. The Hero Vida V2 Pro undercuts it by a wide margin. What the 450X still does better than most of that group is its overall tech experience and the way it steers and responds to the throttle like a carefully engineered machine. What it hasn’t fixed across its generations is a firm ride, a tight riding position for tall riders and a small boot.
