Range anxiety refers to the worry of running out of battery charge before reaching your destination or a charging point – it is one of the most cited reasons why people hesitate to buy an EV. The honest answer is that for urban and suburban commuters in India, range anxiety is largely a psychological barrier rather than a practical one.
If you are charging at home overnight and your daily commute is under 60–70 km, you will start every morning with more than enough charge and will never need to think about it mid-ride or mid-drive. Where it remains a legitimate concern is on long highway journeys, particularly on routes where charging infrastructure is sparse. In those scenarios, planning matters – identifying charging stops in advance, carrying an emergency portable charger, and choosing a vehicle with generous real-world range eliminates most of the risk.
As charging networks expand and battery ranges grow – both happening rapidly in India – range anxiety will continue to diminish as a genuine barrier to EV adoption.
