Are electric bikes fast enough for highway riding in India?

< 1 min read

For performance-focused models, absolutely.

  • Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2 tops out at 155 km/h – well above typical highway cruising speeds – and has the torque delivery to hold high speeds confidently.
  • Ola Roadster manages 126 km/h, making it comfortable at 80–100 km/h highway speeds.
  • Even the Revolt RV400, at 85 km/h top speed, handles most state highway and inter-city riding where speeds rarely exceed 80 km/h.

There are two practical considerations for highway riding in EVs. First, highway speeds drain batteries significantly faster than city riding, because aerodynamic drag increases with the square of speed. A bike that delivers 150 km in the city might only return 90–100 km at sustained 90–100 km/h.

Second, public fast-charging infrastructure along national highways, while growing, is still patchy in many parts of India.

Plan your route, identify charging stops, and always start a highway trip with a full charge.
