The MG Comet EV currently holds the title of India’s most affordable electric car, with prices starting around ₹7 lakh (ex-showroom). It is a compact, two-door city car designed for short urban trips, with a 17.3 kWh battery providing around 230 km of claimed range – plenty for inner-city commuting.
The Tata Tiago EV follows at ₹6.99–11.79 lakh and is a more practical choice for small families, offering a full-sized hatchback body, 250 km claimed range, and Tata’s strong service and safety credentials.
Both models are eligible for state-level EV subsidies which can bring effective prices down further.
For first-time EV buyers considering the switch from a budget petrol hatchback, both these options make a strong case: lower running costs, minimal maintenance, and a far more pleasant daily driving experience. The key question is range sufficiency – if your daily use is predominantly within city limits, either is genuinely sufficient.
