An electric vehicle (EV) is a vehicle powered entirely by electricity stored in a rechargeable battery pack, with no petrol, diesel, or internal combustion engine involved. Instead of burning fuel, it uses an electric motor to drive the wheels. You charge the battery at home using a regular socket or a dedicated wall box charger, or at a public charging station – much like plugging in your phone.
EVs come in many forms: two-wheelers like electric scooters & electric bikes, electric cars, buses, and even commercial trucks.
In India, the two-wheeler segment is leading EV adoption, with brands like Ola Electric, Ather Energy, and TVS making electric scooters mainstream. With significantly fewer moving parts than a petrol engine – no crankshaft, pistons, or exhaust system – EVs are mechanically simpler, quieter to ride, and far cheaper to maintain over time.
