If you want to get the most out of government support when buying an EV, your state of residence matters enormously. Delhi is one of the most buyer-friendly states, offering up to ₹30,000 off on electric two-wheelers, zero road tax, zero registration fees, and even a ₹6,000 incentive for setting up a home charger.
Maharashtra is another standout — early-bird buyers of electric passenger cars have received up to ₹1.5 lakh in direct subsidy, with full road tax exemption on top. Gujarat offers up to ₹20,000 on two-wheelers with full tax exemption. Tamil Nadu provides ₹5,000 per kWh of battery capacity for two-wheelers alongside a 100% road tax waiver.
Karnataka, while lighter on direct cash subsidies, exempts EV buyers from registration fees and road tax — and its strong charging infrastructure makes EV ownership highly practical day-to-day.
