FAME — Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles — was India’s flagship central EV subsidy programme. FAME II ran from 2019 to March 2024 with a ₹10,000 crore budget, offering direct point-of-sale discounts on electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and select commercial vehicles.
It has since been replaced by the PM E-DRIVE scheme, launched in September 2024 with a larger ₹10,900 crore outlay covering two-wheelers, three-wheelers, buses, trucks, and charging infrastructure. For two-wheelers, the current subsidy under PM E-DRIVE stands at ₹2,500 per kWh of battery, capped at ₹5,000 per vehicle.
The subsidy is applied directly at the dealership — no paperwork needed from your side. Simply buy an eligible EV from an authorised dealer and the discount is already factored into the price you pay.
