Annual servicing costs for electric two-wheelers in India are dramatically lower than their petrol equivalents – this is one of the strongest financial arguments for going electric. A typical annual service for an electric scooter or bike costs between ₹500 and ₹2,000, depending on the brand and what is included.
A comparable petrol scooter service typically costs ₹2,500–6,000 per year when factoring in engine oil, oil filter, air filter, and spark plug replacements on top of labour. EVs eliminate all of those consumables entirely. Routine EV servicing typically covers: brake pad inspection and adjustment, tyre pressure check and rotation, battery health diagnostics via the onboard management system, software update verification, coolant check (for liquid-cooled motors), and general safety checks.
The main maintenance costs specific to EVs are tyre wear (which can be slightly faster due to instant torque) and eventual brake pad replacement – which, thanks to regenerative braking doing most of the deceleration, is far less frequent than on petrol vehicles.
