VinFast has officially entered the 7-seater mass market in India with the launch of its VF MPV 7. The Vietnamese brand has already introduced two electric SUVs, the VF6 and VF7; the VF MPV 7 is the third offering in the all-electric portfolio.
Priced at ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom), this seven-seater aims to prove that you don’t have to sacrifice style or performance when buying a “people mover.” It enters a competitive segment with a promise of massive space, low running costs, and a warranty package that is hard to ignore.
Design: Exterior and Interior
The VF MPV 7 doesn’t look like a traditional, boxy van. It follows a “human-first” design language that makes it look modern and aerodynamic.
- Exterior
The front is dominated by VinFast’s signature “V” light bar. These are sleek LED daytime running lights that meet at the centre logo. Below them sit powerful LED projector headlamps. From the side, the car looks long and planted, thanks to its 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels. Small details like the chrome window line and the integrated rear spoiler give it a premium feel usually found in more expensive cars. - Interior
VinFast has kept the interior simple. There are very few physical buttons. Instead, almost everything is controlled through a 10.1-inch touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard. This screen handles your music (with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), your air conditioning, and even shows you information about the car’s speed and battery. You can choose between two interior colours: a classy all-black or a warm black and brown dual-tone.
Performance, Driving Modes, and Range
One of the best things about the VF MPV 7 is that it drives more like a sporty car than a heavy MPV.
- Battery and Range: You get a single battery pack option: 60.13kWh. Ona. full charge, the ARAI-certified range is 517km. Most users might not need to charge it for a week or so, given the long range.
- Power: The electric motor produces 150kW of power and 280 Nm of torque. This allows the car to go from 0 to 100 km/h in under 9 seconds.
- Driving Modes: You can change how the car feels by switching between Eco, City, and Sport modes. If you want to save battery, use Eco. If you’re on a highway and want a bit of fun, Sport mode makes the throttle very responsive.
- Regenerative Braking: The car has “Regen” modes. This means when you take your foot off the accelerator, the car slows down and uses that energy to charge the battery. You can set this to Off, Low, Medium, or High depending on your comfort.
Safety Features
VinFast is offering ABS, EBD, ESC, TCS, Hill Start Assist, Roll Over Mitigation, and much more in the safety department. But what is a bit disappointing is the number of airbags. While the entry-level car, like a Maruti Suzuki Alto, is offering 6 airbags as standard, the VF MPV 7 comes with only 4 airbags.
Charging and Ownership: The “Peace of Mind” Package
VinFast knows that many people are worried about switching to electric. To help, they have introduced some of the best ownership benefits in India:
- Fast Charging: If you use a DC fast charger (80kW), you can charge the battery from 10% to 70% in just 30 minutes. That’s basically the time it takes to have a quick lunch break on a road trip.
- Free Charging: Every VF MPV 7 buyer gets free public charging at VinFast’s V-Green network until March 31, 2029.
- Warranty: The car comes with a 7-year/1.6 lakh km vehicle warranty. The battery is covered for even longer, 10 years.
- Free Maintenance: You get 3 years of free scheduled maintenance, so your service bills for the first few years are essentially zero.
- Buyback Program: This is a great addition to the whole offering. VinFast is offering a 75% assured buyback program with the MPV 7. This means if you want to sell the car back to them after a few years, they will give you a guaranteed price, protecting you from high depreciation.
Space and Seating Capacity
The “7” in the name stands for its seating capacity. This is a true seven-seater designed with a theatre-style seating arrangement. This means the second row is slightly higher than the first, and the third row is slightly higher than the second, giving everyone a better view of the road ahead. The layout is 2+3+3.
- Wheelbase: At 2,840 mm, it has the longest wheelbase in its class. This translates directly to more legroom, especially in the third row, which can actually fit adults comfortably.
- Versatility: The second row can slide and recline. The third row can be folded down if you need more luggage space.
- Boot Space: With all seven seats up, you get 126 litres of space, enough for a few soft bags. If you fold the seats down, it expands to a massive 1,240 litres, enough to move small furniture or lots of camping gear.
Variants and Colour Options
To keep things simple for buyers, VinFast has launched the VF MPV 7 in a single, fully-loaded variant. You don’t have to worry about missing out on features by picking a lower model.
Available Colours: Infinity Blanc (White), Jet Black, Moonlit Ocean (Blue), Solar Ruby (Red), Zenith Grey, and Introspective Brown.
Rivals and Price Comparison
The VF MPV 7 sits in a “sweet spot.” It is more premium than entry-level electric cars but more affordable than luxury electric vans.
| Model | Ex-showroom Price | Claimed Range | Seating Capacity |
| VinFast VF MPV 7 | ₹24.49 Lakh | 517km | 7 |
| Kia Carens EV | ₹17.99 – ₹24.99 Lakh | 400-490km | 7 |
| BYD eMax 7 | ₹26.90 – ₹29.90 Lakh | 420-530km | 6/7 |
| Toyota Innova Hycross | ₹21.49 – ₹30.23 Lakh | Hybrid | 7/8 |
How the VinFast VF MPV 7 compares:
- Vs. Kia Carens EV: The South Korean EV is the direct rival to the MPV 7. While the Kia starts at a lower price, the VinFast offers a longer wheelbase and a more powerful motor as standard.
- Vs. BYD eMax 7: The BYD is more expensive and feels a bit more “executive.” However, VinFast offers a better warranty and the unique free charging benefit.
- Vs. Toyota Innova Hycross: The Innova is a legend in India. While the Hycross is a hybrid (petrol + electric), the VF MPV 7 is a pure EV. For someone looking to stop visiting petrol pumps completely, the VinFast is the logical upgrade.
VinFast VF MPV 7: Review
The VinFast VF MPV 7 is a strong contender for anyone looking for a large family vehicle. It focuses on the basics, space, range, and comfort, while adding a layer of high-tech features and an unbeatable warranty. If you have a large family and want to make the switch to green mobility without breaking the bank, this MPV deserves a spot on your shortlist. You will get a 7-seater with good space, even in the third row. On the safety aspect, while everything else looks good, the number of airbags surely needs to increase, especially when seven people can sit in it. Overall, if we were to review the MPV 7 in one sentence, the electric car provides space, comfort, and performance, but it might take some time to get accustomed to the centre console and usage.
