      Tata Harrier EV: Overview

Tata Motors has been one of the pioneers of the mass-market electric vehicle segment in India. Currently, the Harrier EV serves as the flagship vehicle of their EV range, till the upcoming Avinya range of premium models come in.

The Tata Harrier EV has become a formidable choice for anyone looking for an imposing large five-seater family SUV, backed by top-tier safety, loads of tech and creature comforts, and a realistic long-distance electric range. It is also one of the few options to offer an AWD capability, that too with athletic performance and without a significant dent in range. With pricing for the Harrier EV starting at Rs 21.49 lakh. It hits just the right spot for EV buyers in the sub-30 lakh price bracket.

Let’s break down the variant lineup of the Tata Harrier EV in detail, highlighting powertrain differences as well as feature variations, and help you decide which one is ideal for you.

Tata Harrier EV Variants and Pricing in India

The Harrier EV offers two distinct battery packs: a 65 kWh unit and a larger 75 kWh setup. Furthermore, buyers can choose between a standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) setup and an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) configuration.

Variant Battery Capacity Claimed Range Price (Ex-Showroom)
Adventure 65 kWh 538 km Rs 21.49 Lakh
      Adventure S 65 kWh 538 km Rs 21.99 Lakh
      Fearless Plus 65 kWh / 75 kWh 538 km / 627 km Rs 23.99 / Rs 24.99 Lakh
Fearless Plus AWD 75 kWh 622 km Rs 26.49 Lakh
Empowered 75 kWh 627 km Rs 27.49 Lakh
Empowered AWD 75 kWh 622 km Rs 28.99 Lakh

(AC Fast Charger Option: Additional Rs 49,000)

Interestingly, the Tata Harrier EV undercuts the base price of the Mahindra XEV 9E (59 kWh) by a small margin with a starting price of Rs 21.49 lakh despite having a slightly larger battery pack. Do note that like Mahindra, Tata is also offering the 7.2kW AC fast charger at an additional cost of Rs 49,000 over all the standard variants.

The Empowered trim coupled with the larger 75 kWh battery pack and AWD comes out to be the most expensive Tata Harrier EV variant. Tata, however, is also offering stealth edition options on top of the Empowered trims with unique aesthetic enhancements, priced at Rs 28.24 lakh for the RWD variant and Rs 29.74 lakh for the AWD one.

Tata Harrier EV: Range & Performance Figures

The Tata Harrier EV’s powerful motor configuration wholeheartedly supports spirited driving. The 65kWh battery pack is exclusively paired with a single rear-wheel-drive motor, while the 75kWh pack offers both RWD and a dual-motor AWD layout.

Specification Tata Harrier EV (65 kWh) Tata Harrier EV (75 kWh)

Tata Harrier EV vs Rivals: Pricing and Spec Analysis

Here is how the Tata Harrier EV compares against the Mahindra XEV 9e, Mahindra BE 6, and the Vinfast VF7.

Model Battery Options Claimed Range Starting Price (Ex-Showroom)
      Tata Harrier EV 65 / 75 kWh 538 – 627 km Rs 21.49 Lakh
      Mahindra BE 6 59 / 79 kWh 557 – 683 km Rs 18.90 Lakh
      Mahindra XEV 9e 59 / 79 kWh 542 – 656 km Rs 21.90 Lakh
      Vinfast VF7 59.6 / 70.8 kWh 438 – 532 km Rs  21.89 Lakh

      Pros:

      • Great starting price point for the class.
      • Available AWD with 6 terrain modes.
      • Myriad of  equipment including a Samsung Neo QLED display and 10-speaker JBL audio system.
      • Rapid 120kW fast-charging capability.
      • Stunning road presence.
      • Blistering performance with the 313 hp, dual-motor QWD setup.
      • Top-tier safety kit

      Cons:

      • Compromised ergonomics
      • Required service visit at every 6 months/7,500
      • Fit and finish inconsistencies
      • Reduced boot capacity
      • Inconsistent service quality

Which Harrier EV Variant is Best For You?

The Harrier EV’s combination of price, equipment, performance, and optional AWD capability, makes it a strong option in its class. Yes, it’s not a born electric suv, so there are some ergonomic issues carried over from the ICE vehicle. But overall, as a package, it’s hard to fault.

If you want the Harrier EV experience but have a strict budget requirement, the Fearless Plus 65 kWh is extremely value for money. However, if you frequently travel long distances or want that occasional AWD assistance, upgrading to the Fearless Plus AWD or the top-spec Empowered AWD is highly recommended.
