Expert Verdict
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV takes the idea of an electric flagship and pushes it somewhere Rolls-Royce and Bentley have spent decades guarding: a back seat built entirely around not driving at all. It manages silence, thrust, and outright pampering better than nearly anything else wearing a green number plate in India today. What keeps it from being an unconditional recommendation is a shrunken boot and a strict four-seat layout, provided the Rs 2.52 crore starting price wasn’t a hurdle in the first place.
What’s good
- Rear-seat theatre and cabin comfort that almost nothing else on sale can match
- Silent, effortless performance from a car weighing over three tonnes
- Rear-axle steering that makes a 5.1-metre SUV genuinely easy to place
- Hyperscreen and Burmester 4D audio set a very high technology bar
- Strong claimed range paired with quick 200 kW DC charging
What’s not so good
- No frunk, and a 440-litre boot that undersells the car’s size
- Strictly four seats, ruling it out for larger families
- CBU import status means a longer wait for specialised parts or service
- A price tag that puts it beyond reach for all but a vanishingly small set of buyers
