TVS and Bajaj Continue to Lead
TVS remained India’s best-selling electric two-wheeler manufacturer in September 2026, recording 53,394 units, up 9.7% from 48,671 units in August. Its lineup includes:
- TVS iQube (Standard, S, and ST models)
- TVS Orbiter (V1 and V2)
- TVS X Electric
Bajaj too wasn’t far behind. Its registrations increased from 39,901 to 46,568 units, translating to a very strong 16.7% MoM growth. The gap between the two stood at just 6,826 units. An interesting thing to note is that the Bajaj Chetak (including the C2501, C3001, C3501, C3502, and C3503) was the best-selling electric scooter model last month, where it won the battle but lost the war to TVS due to the greater combined sales of models in the TVS lineup. So, it would be interesting to see who takes the best-selling model crown this month.
But both mainstream manufacturers remained comfortably ahead of Ather, with nearly twice the sales. Ather retained the third position with 29,230 units, registering a relatively modest 4.6% monthly increase. We also analysed what’s going on with Ather, and if you want to know more about it, check out our detailed analysis.
Vida Is Rapidly Closing In On Ather
Hero Vida was one of September’s biggest achievers. Its sales jumped from 18,669 units in August 2026 to 23,790 units in September 2026, an increase of 27.4%. This also reduced the gap between Vida and Ather to only 5,440 units. While Ather remains comfortably ahead when looking at sales over a longer period, September shows how quickly Vida is scaling. If its recent momentum continues to build, the battle for third place could become one of the more interesting developments in this list.
Ola Electric Slips While Underdogs Like River And BGauss Grow
Ola Electric remained fifth but was the only manufacturer to record a decline in sales. Its sales dropped from 13,798 to 13,243 units, down around 4% MoM. More significantly, Ola’s September volume was barely half of Vida’s and less than half of Ather’s. Despite Ola launching the new Ola S1Z in India, the sales are still struggling, and we think this is due to the negative reputation it has built over the years for compromised after-sales service.
Greaves Electric followed with 8,766 units, growing 7.7%, while River Mobility continued its steady expansion with 5,428 units, up 6.6%. BGauss also recorded positive growth, increasing from 4,230 to 4,476 units. And, we think, with the launch of the new BGauss C12 MaxR, the sales will definitely go up in the upcoming months.
E-Sprinto and Oben Record Massive Growth
The biggest percentage gains came further down the list. E-Sprinto Green jumped from just 120 units in August to 1,997 units in September, while Oben Electric more than doubled its registrations from 616 to 1,384 units. The percentage increases in sales are enormous because both manufacturers are growing from relatively small bases, but their entry into the top 10 is still notable. Also, e-Sprinto is all set to launch a new family-focused electric scooter in India in October 2026, which could further give it a sales jump.
SearchEV Analysis
September’s numbers ultimately show the changing structure of India’s electric two-wheeler market. TVS and Bajaj have established a sizeable lead, Ather remains third, while Vida is quickly closing the gap. We think a lot of two-wheeler buyers are now actually considering an EV when looking for a scooter. We think this change in perspective and perception is due to the low running costs, next-to-none maintenance, increasing awareness and the amount of incentives provided while buying one. All of these factors have made owning an EV quite easy and hassle-free. We won’t be surprised if, in upcoming months, EVs make up a very sizable chunk of the overall two-wheelers sold in India.
