India’s electric two-wheeler industry saw a significant reshuffle in May 2026. Established manufacturers like Bajaj Auto, and TVS strengthened their grip on the electric segment, while Ola Electric – the early electric leader of India – continued to lose ground. TVS Continues To Lead
TVS Motor Company emerged as the best-selling electric two-wheeler manufacturer of India. The Hosur-based manufacturer sold 40,711 units of the TVS iQube, TVS Orbiter Electric, and the TVS X combined. This month’s strong sales numbers further cement TVS’s position as one of the most dominant players in the Indian electric market. In our opinion, TVS’s widespread dealership network, and practical positioning help the brand gather a major chunk of the market.
Bajaj Auto Narrows The Gap
Bajaj Auto tallied 36,727 units of the Bajaj Chetak lineup this May. Also, Bajaj is lagging behind TVS, by just around 4,000 units, which could mean that we see a fierce competition for the ‘Best-Seller’ spot in the upcoming months. Also, the recent launch of the updated Bajaj Chetak lineup might have helped the brand boost its sales numbers, and we think Bajaj will definitely gun for the top spot.
Ather Holds Its Place
Ather Energy continues to hold the third position with 26,478 units. Despite growing competition from legacy players, Ather still benefits from its strong premium brand image. Also, the Ather Rizta, which is one of the most popular electric scooters in India, helps rack up sales fast, in addition to the Ather 450 range, and the Ather Apex.
Hero Vida Surpasses Ola Electric
One of the biggest developments this month was Vida surpassing Ola Electric. Vida is Hero MotoCorp’s sub-brand for its electric vehicles. The current lineup includes the Hero Vida VX2, the Vida V2 range, and the Vida Dirt.e K3.
Hero Vida sold 17,963 units in May 2026, comfortably outperforming Ola Electric. In our opinion, this is due to Hero’s large market presence and the brand trust the Indian public has. Also, the lowered upfront cost due to BaaS (Battery As A Service) schemes helped Vida gain good sales numbers.
Ola Electric Slips To Fifth Place
Once the undisputed champion of India’s electric scooter market, Ola Electric – which is an Indian electric start-up – sold 14,585 units during May 2026. This drop in position shows that Indian buyers are now preferring traditional manufacturers, even when they provide just a basic experience, which is consistent and reliable. This also shows that if you don’t provide the most basic service resolutions, consumers generally avoid the purchase, even when the product comes with all the bells and whistles.
Our Opinion
The EV scooter sales in May 2026 show a clear shift in the buyer perspective. With family-friendly and reliable products, TVS and Bajaj are now setting the pace. Ather still has good presence in the market with premium scooters, and Hero Vida is rapidly climbing the rankings with lower upfront costs and easy-to-use scooters. But Ola’s drop to fifth place shows us how competitive the EV market has become.
