Expert Verdict
The VinFast VF7 is a high-performance electric SUV that blends Italian style with aggressive pricing. It is a driver’s delight, offering up to 349 hp and a 5-star safety rating, making it a top contender in the premium EV segment.
Vinfast VF7 Design
Exterior
The VinFast VF7 is a visual masterpiece. It has a “Coupe-SUV” silhouette that looks fast even when stationary. The signature “V” wing LED light bar spans the entire front and rear, providing a high-tech, futuristic identity that stands out in a crowded market.
At 4,550 mm long and with a ground clearance of 190 mm, it is sized perfectly for Indian road conditions. It sits on massive 20-inch alloy wheels, which fill the arches perfectly. The flush-type door handles and shark-fin antenna aren’t just for show; they contribute to a sleek, aerodynamic profile that helps reduce wind noise and improve range.
Interior
The cabin is focused entirely on the driver. The dashboard is tilted toward the steering wheel, and the minimalist theme means there are almost no physical buttons. The layout is clean and low, significantly improving forward visibility.
You get a choice of interior themes: a professional all-black cabin for the base “Earth” trim, and a sophisticated dual-tone brown-and-black theme for higher variants. The use of premium vegan leather and copper stitching elevates the “lounge” feel. The flat floor, a benefit of the dedicated EV platform, makes the cabin feel very spacious.
Build Quality
Manufactured at VinFast’s high-tech facility in Tamil Nadu, the VF7 feels built to international standards. The panel gaps are tight, and the doors close with a heavy, reassuring “thud.” The tactile feedback from the steering-mounted controls and window switches suggests a high level of durability.
The design is VF7’s strongest weapon. It looks like a concept car that accidentally made it into production. The build quality is impressive, proving that VinFast is ready to compete with established premium brands.
Vinfast VF7 Features
The VF7 is a tech powerhouse. The centerpiece of the interior is a 15.6-inch freestanding touchscreen that acts as the car’s nerve center.
- Tech Suite: It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 6 or 8-speaker sound system depending on the trim, and a highly accurate Head-Up Display (HUD). Since there is no traditional instrument cluster, the HUD is essential for keeping your eyes on the road.
- Luxury Ticks: You get dual-zone climate control with an air purifier, ventilated front seats, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a massive edge-to-edge panoramic glass roof on the Infinity trims.
- Smart Driving: The car supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, ensuring your infotainment and safety systems stay current without a trip to the dealer.
While the lag-free 15.6-inch screen is gorgeous, moving functions like AC and mirror adjustments into a menu is a bold move, and will surely take some time for the customers to get accustomed to. However, the voice assistant is quite responsive and helps mitigate the learning curve.
Vinfast VF7 Performance & Range
The VF7 offers two distinct levels of performance to suit different types of drivers:
- The Earth Trim (FWD): Features a 59.6 kWh battery producing 174 hp and 250 Nm torque. It’s a smooth, efficient commuter that hits 100 km/h in about 10 seconds.
- The Sky Trim (AWD): The enthusiast’s choice. A 70.8 kWh battery with a dual-motor setup producing a massive 349 hp and 500 Nm torque. It rockets from 0–100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds.
We drove the Sky Trim, and man, it runs crazy. The massive 500Nm of torque feels thrilling, especially on the expressways, and reaching 100kmph is a breeze.
The claimed range for the VinFast VF7 is 532km for the bigger battery variant. In the city, we got about 435 km of range, on the highways, it reduced to around 390 km, which is pretty good for a car that offers such a thrilling performance.
The AWD Sky trim is a literal rocket. It is faster than many luxury cars costing twice as much. The range is good, but it’s the instant, linear power delivery that makes this a true driver’s car.
Vinfast VF7 Ride & Handling
Underneath the stylish body, the VF7 uses a sophisticated MacPherson front and Control Blade Independent Rear Suspension.
Because the heavy battery is placed low in the chassis, the car doesn’t lean much in corners. It feels planted and European in its behaviour, staying stable during quick lane changes.
The suspension is tuned to be slightly firm to handle the car’s weight. At low speeds, you might feel some bumps, but as you speed up, the ride flattens out beautifully. It feels significantly more composed at 120 km/h than its lighter petrol rivals.
Most EVs in this class use a basic torsion beam; the independent rear setup here makes the VF7 feel much more sophisticated. It’s a driver’s EV that handles like a sporty sedan.
Vinfast VF7 Safety
Safety is a headline feature for VinFast. The VF7 has officially secured a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating.
- Protection: It comes standard with 7 Airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
- ADAS Level 2: The “Wind” and “Sky” trims are packed with radar and camera-based sensors. Features like Auto Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Blind Spot Detection are well-calibrated for Indian road markings.
Securing a 5-star BNCAP rating as a new entrant is a massive statement. The ADAS system is surprisingly effective even in ‘organised chaos’ scenarios, making it a very safe family SUV.
Vinfast VF7 Space & Comfort
- Cabin Space: The 2,840 mm wheelbase is one of the longest in the segment. This translates to immense legroom in both the front and rear. A flat floor means three adults can sit in the back quite comfortably.
- Seating & Comfort: The front ventilated seats are excellent for long summer drives. While the rear floor is a bit high, creating a minor “knees-up” posture, the seats are angled well to provide decent under-thigh support.
- Boot Space: A generous 537 litres, which is plenty for a full family road trip. There is no frunk (front trunk); the space is utilised for the dual-motor components and electronics.
It’s a great true 5-seater. The large boot is practical, and the airy feel from the panoramic glass roof prevents the cabin from feeling cramped on long journeys.
Vinfast VF7 Charging & Warranty
VinFast is disrupting the market with its ownership terms.
- Charging: On a 110 kW DC fast charger, you can go from 10% to 70% in just 24–28 minutes. A standard 7.2 kW home AC box takes about 9–10 hours for a full charge.
- Warranty: They offer an industry-leading 10-year or 2,00,000 km warranty on the vehicle and battery. In some 2026 launch offers, they have even included free public charging for the first two years.
The 10-year warranty is the biggest ‘buy’ signal. It effectively removes the risk for early adopters. The fast-charging speeds are also class-leading, making highway trips much more feasible.
Vinfast VF7 Service & Network
As a new brand, VinFast is focusing on a “Premium Service” experience.
- Network: They have opened over 50 showrooms and 3S facilities across major Indian hubs like Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai.
- Mobile Service: They offer a mobile service program where technicians can perform minor repairs and software updates at your home or office.
Although VinFast’s footprint is not as massive as the competitors’, the mobile service strategy is smart. Since most EV issues are software-related, not having to visit a workshop for every small update is a huge convenience.
