India’s electric two-wheeler market had an interesting August, with established scooters continuing to bring in the substantial sales numbers while newer models have now started appearing further down the leaderboard. We analyse the complete model-wise sales data for August 2026.
The Bajaj Chetak came out on top with 52,248 units, compared with 14,014 units in August 2025. That translates to a sizeable 273% year-on-year increase. The TVS iQube, which now has dropped to the second place, wasn’t far behind with 42,882 units, followed by Vida VX2 and Ather Rizta in the corresponding places in the top 10 list.
Here’s the full breakdown of the model-wise EV scooter sales list from August 2026:

Bajaj Chetak Moves Ahead Of TVS iQube
The largest number on the table belongs to the Bajaj Chetak range. It includes the Bajaj Chetak C2501, C3001, C3501, C3502, and C3503 models, which cater to a wide range of buyers with different range needs and use cases. Its 52,248-unit tally in August 2026 is a substantial increase of 38,234 units over August 2025, a 273% YoY (Year-on-Year) growth. This was also the largest absolute gain among the models listed when compared with units sold, as well as percentage-wise.
More importantly, Chetak sold 9,366 units more than the TVS iQube, crowning Bajaj for the month. The Chetak alone accounted for around 27.9% of the combined volume in this list.
TVS iQube Takes Second, But Orbiter Changes The Whole Picture
The TVS iQube recorded 42,882 units in August 2026, up from 24,434 units a year ago. That works out to a total of 76% YoY growth. However, considering individual TVS models will just tell you half the story. Add the TVS Orbiter, which sits in the fifth position on the list, and the picture becomes a lot clearer.
The newer TVS Orbiter contributed another 14,641 units, enough to put it fifth on the overall model leaderboard. Combine the sales figures of the two TVS models, and the total brand sales come out as 57,523 units — about 5,275 more than the Bajaj Chetak range’s tally. So, effectively, we think TVS is still ahead, and doing well; it’s just the sales have split among two models which offer different use cases to very different customers.
Hero Vida Range Secures Third Place
Hero’s Vida range (includes the VX2 and V2 series) finished third with 25,558 units, essentially doubling its August 2025 tally of 12,273 units. This translates to a 108% year-on-year growth, putting Vida 2,972 units ahead of the fourth-placed Ather Rizta, which, in our opinion, is quite a popular scooter. It’s a significant jump considering how firmly the top positions were once occupied by a smaller group of electric scooter manufacturers, who just wouldn’t budge.
Ather Rizta Continues To Bring In The Numbers
Ather sold 22,586 units of the Rizta, a 30% jump in sales from 17,344 units in August last year. Ather Rizta accounts for more than 70% of the total brand sales, but Rizta isn’t carrying Ather entirely on its own anymore. We recently witnessed the launch of Ather Konarc, and in just 11 days, the Konarc gathered 217 unit sales. We know it’s not enough to make a difference, but that’s for the time being. We think in the near future, we would definitely see Konarc sway a lot of customers with its practical features, and appealing price tag.
The remaining sales for Ather were contributed by the 450 series (including the Ather 450S, Ather 450X, and the Ather 450 Apex) with 6,891 units. That takes Ather’s combined listed-model volume to 29,694 units, which is commendable.
River Indie Records Strong Growth
The River Indie, also called the ‘SUV of Scooters’, tallied 6,567 units this August against 2,229 units in August 2025. That’s a 195% YoY increase, and we think it’s quite justified, as the Indie has lived up to its name.
Ampere Greaves Quietly Gathers Sales
Ampere Greaves also has multiple products on the leaderboard. The Ampere Magnus range gathered 9,772 unit sales, while the new Ampere Reo VYB and Ampere Nexus contributed 1,911 and 756 units, respectively. Together, these three scooters accounted for a total of 12,439 units.
The Japanese Are Yet To Crack The Indian Market
All the major Japanese manufacturers remain much further down the list, far from best-selling brands. Once the Japanese vehicles were considered the pinnacle of technology, but as time passed, the evolution of their products was a major challenge they faced. This includes mostly the Honda, Suzuki and the Yamaha.
Honda’s QC1 electric scooter recorded 1,902 units, while the Honda Activa E managed just 140 units. The latter technically registered 600% YoY growth, but that’s because its August 2025 base stood at just 20 units, which is far from being considered as a ‘best-seller’.
But we are quite hopeful, particularly from Honda, as it recently launched the Honda QC3 electric scooter in India, which addresses most of the shortcomings of the QC1. So, we should see a decent number of sales in upcoming months.
Apart from this, the Suzuki e-Access recorded 668 units, while Yamaha’s EC06 gathered 475 unit sales. Both these scooters have struggled to find a loyal customer base, and the primary reason we think is the expensive price tags. The eAccess is significantly dearer than its rivals, and the EC-06 just charges the ‘Yamaha Premium’, which makes it around Rs 20,000 more expensive than the River Indie, which it is based on.
SearchEV Says
August’s model-wise numbers tell two slightly different stories. Bajaj has the month’s highest-selling individual electric scooter in the Chetak, and its jump from 14,014 to 52,248 units is substantial. TVS, however, has the advantage of having two contributors: the TVS iQube and the newer TVS Orbiter.
Then there’s the second group. Hero Vida, which crossed 25,000 units, the Ather Rizta, which remained the primary volume driver for its brand, and then the River Indie, which continued to grow from a much smaller base.
Perhaps the more interesting development is what comes next. Orbiter and Konarc are now appearing in the numbers, while Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha are also present with their newer electric products. That means the sales chart could look considerably more crowded once these newer models have had a few full months in the market, and as buyers develop awareness about these electric scooters.
