What FC Means and Why It Matters

FC stands for fast charging, but on the Comet it means faster AC charging, not DC. The regular Excite charges at 3.3 kW, whereas the FC version accepts up to 7.4 kW. In practice, that more than doubles the charging speed. For example, one hour on a 7.4 kW charger adds roughly 60 to 70 km of city range, compared with about 30 km on the slower unit.

Who Should Buy the Excite FC?

The Excite FC makes the most sense in a few situations. First, it suits owners who charge at the office and only have a few hours during the workday. Next, it helps people in apartments with shared chargers, where long charging slots aren’t always available. In addition, it works well for anyone who makes several short trips a day and needs quick top-ups between them. On the other hand, if you always charge overnight at home, the regular Excite saves you about Rs 27,000.

Features Shared With the Excite

Apart from charging, the Excite FC matches the regular Excite feature for feature. Inside, it offers the 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with Hinglish voice commands. Outside, LED headlamps, the connected LED light bar and power-folding mirrors come standard. Moreover, a rear parking camera and i-SMART connected car features add everyday convenience.

Home Setup Tip

To get the full benefit of 7.4 kW charging, your home needs a suitable electrical connection. Usually, that means a dedicated circuit with enough load capacity. So, ask the dealer to arrange a site check before installation. If your supply can’t handle 7.4 kW, the car will still charge, just at a slower speed.

What the Excite FC Misses

Like the regular Excite, the FC version skips ESC with hill hold, the electronic parking brake and rear disc brakes. It also uses fabric seats instead of leatherette. What's good

• If there is a 3-foot gap, you can park the MG Comet EV there easily
• Cheaper to run than even many petrol scooters
• The cabin is quite feature-rich
• Turning radius is excellent, and makes U-turns quite easy

What's not so good

• No DC fast charging support restricts the car strictly to the city
• Small wheels struggle to keep up if bad roads are among your commutes
• Zero boot space makes it less practical
