Ather just dropped a new teaser of its upcoming family electric scooter in India. While the scooter was spotted testing on Indian roads multiple times, its name was still a big mystery. And, after dropping multiple teasers and confirming its production timeline, the brand has now revealed its official name.
The new Ather family electric scooter is called the ‘KONARC’. We did get a hint about the name from the previous teasers, where the brand had showcased the scooter in front of the sun. To clarify things up, KONARC is most likely a combination of two words – KONA, which means a corner, or an angle, and ARC (or ARKA), which is a synonym for the sun.
What Is The Ather Konarc?
The ‘Ather Konarc’ is the much-awaited, production version of Ather’s new family electric scooter, which is built on the new modular EL platform. It was revealed at the Ather Community Day 2025, and a prototype of the scooter called EL-01 was showcased too.
The most distinguishable thing about the Konarc is its performance and family-friendly design. While other Ather scooters are primarily focused on the premium buyer, the Konarc will cater to the budget-conscious, family buyer who wants an affordable scooter with a decent feature list, and low running costs.
Ather Konarc Desgin
The original concept featured a conventional family-scooter silhouette, with a long single-piece seat, large floorboard and apron-mounted LED headlamp. The production test mule spotted earlier this year retained much of the concept’s overall design philosophy.
Ather Konarc Battery, Range, And Performance
The brand claims that the Konarc’s platform was built by collecting more than 26 lakh kilometres of field data. Also, it is a modular platform, so it can be built to fit battery packs ranging from 2 kWh to 5 kWh. The architecture uses a steel unibody chassis and a swingarm-mounted electric motor. The platform is also designed to simplify the scooter’s electrical layout and manufacturing process. And, due to this, the brand claims that this platform gives them the flexibility to build scooters with different uses cases and specifications, and it has simpler packaging and is cost-optimised.
Konarc To Be More Practical Than Ather’s 450 Series
The Konarc’s design is clearly focused on family use rather than sporty riding. The EL-01 concept featured a longer wheelbase and wider seat, while the test mule was also seen with a conventional scooter layout. This should translate into a more relaxed riding position and better accommodation for a pillion.
The large floorboard should also make the scooter more practical for everyday commuting, particularly for riders carrying bags or other items. This is an important distinction from Ather’s 450 models, which are designed with a stronger emphasis on performance and sporty handling.
Ather Konarc Launch Date And Price
Ather has confirmed that its first mass-market scooter based on the EL platform will be launched on August 29, 2026, at the Ather Community Day 2026 in Bengaluru, which the brand has named ‘A New Dawn Of Magic’ event.
This makes the Konarc one of Ather’s most important launches of 2026, as it will take the company into a considerably larger section of the electric two-wheeler market. The expected price of the Konarc is above Rs 1 lakh, and below Rs 1,21,499 (Ather Rizta’s starting price).
What We Think
We think this is a significant step for the brand as it is diverging from its premium EV brand image into the mass market. With the other scooters, Ather has proceed itself in the market with innovative features, and immensely reliable tech that has never disappointed its consumers. But, we think the Konarc will be quite important as the brand now enters direct competition with legacy players like Bajaj, TVS, and Hero Vida. It will be quite interesting to see what hardware, and features the Konarc offers when compared to its popular rivals, and that too at a very competitive price.
