Oben Electric recently launched the Rorr Evo, a sporty electric commuter motorcycle in India. It is priced at Rs 99,999 (introductory ex-showroom). In the same segment, we have the popular Revolt RV400, and we compared both of these bikes to find out the better-equipped one among them, on paper. Here’s an overview:
Performance and Range
| Specification | Oben Rorr Evo | Revolt RV400 |
| Motor | Chain-driven | Belt-driven |
| Power | 9kW | 4.1kW |
| Torque | 250Nm | 180Nm |
| Battery Capacity | 3.4kW | 3.24kW |
| Claimed Range | 180km | 150km |
| Claimed Top Speed | 110kmph | 85kmph |
| Acceleration time | 0-40kmph in 3seconds | 0-40kmph in 5.2seconds |
When pitted against each other, the new Oben Rorr Evo is a strong contender with exciting performance figures. With a higher top speed, and longer range, the Rorr Evo is perfect for someone, who wants a bike for longer commutes, or intercity travel. But, if your use case is just about commutes, and includes a lot of traffic, you will be fine with the Revolt as well. Also, the chain drive on the Oben would translate to less power losses.
Chassis, Suspension and Brakes
| Specification | Oben Rorr Evo | Revolt RV400 |
| Frame | Tubular Steel (called ARX) | Tubular Steel |
| Front Suspension | Telescopic Fork | Upside Down Fork |
| Rear Suspension | 7-step adjustable monoshock | Adjustable monoshock |
| Front Brake | 270mm | 240mm |
| Rear Brake | 240mm | 240mm |
| Braking System | UBA (CBS) | CBS |
| Front Tyre | 110/70 R17 | 90/80 R17 |
| Rear Tyre | 130/70 R17 | 110/80 R17 |
Both the bikes are built on a tubular steel chassis that accommodates their battery pack and the motor. On the Oben, the brand calls it the ‘ARX’ frame, which it claims to have been optimised for better handling.
While the Revolt RV400 looks better equipped with the inverted fork (which reduces unsprung mass, giving the bike better control), the Oben Rorr Evo gets a telescopic fork. But, to find out which one performs better, we might need to test these out in real-world conditions. Also, the monoshock absorber on both bikes is adjustable so that could be set as per the rider’s comfort.
Both bikes get disc brakes at both ends with CBS (Combined Braking System), which distributes the brake pressure evenly between the two wheels, thus preventing accidental wheel lockups. But, the Oben comes with a slightly larger front disc than the RV400, so the braking should be a little bit better.
Also, both bikes roll on 17-inch wheels, but the Oben Rorr has fatter wheels, which should give it better traction and cornering stability. So, all in all, the Oben Rorr Evo is actually better equipped in terms of underpinnings.
Dimensions
| Specification | Oben Rorr Evo | Revolt RV400 |
| Seat Height | 780mm | 814mm |
| Ground Clearance | 200mm | 200mm |
| Kerb Weight | 140kg | 115kg |
| Storage Space | 10 litres | – |
As per the specsheet, the Oben Rorr is the more accessible among these two, when the seat height is considered. So, for beginner riders, or someone whose on the shorter side, they would be better with the Oben Rorr Evo.
But, the Oben Rorr Evo also weighs a lot more than the RV400, which makes it a little less manageable on slow speeds, or while moving it around the parking space. Where it makes up for the lost manageability, is the storage space. The Oben comes with two storage compartments — a 6-litre underseat storage compartment, and a 4-litre tank pad.
The ground clearance is 200mm, the same on both bikes, and is enough to cross all the tallest of the speedbreakers on Indian roads without scraping anything.
Features
| Feature | Oben Rorr Evo | Revolt RV400 |
| Console | 5-inch TFT | 6-inch LCD |
| Connectivity | Smartphone via the Oben App | No |
| Navigation | Turn-by-turn navigation | – |
| Lighting Setup | Projector LED | Projector LED |
| Reverse Mode | Yes | Yes |
| Regenerative Braking | Yes | No |
The Oben Rorr Evo is the newer bike among these two, and the features list represents the same. The Revolt RV400 gets the LCD display which only shows the essential information. But, the TFT unit on the Rorr is far more advanced and has all the bells and whistles you expect from the latest generation of bikes.
The Rorr also comes with turn-by-turn navigation, which will definitely come in handy when puttering around the city. And, yes there’s regenerative braking as well, to make your rides safer. Other common features in both bikes are geofencing, OTA (over-the-air) updates, and reverse mode that comes in handy when parked in tricky situations.
Price Analysis
| Bike | Oben Rorr Evo | Revolt RV400 |
| Ex-showroom price | Rs 99,999 | Rs 1,39,950 |
When compared for price, the Oben Rorr Evo is very competitively priced. It is offered at just Rs 99,999 for the first 10,000 customers. But, even after that, it will still be affordable than the Revolt RV400, at Rs 1.25 lakh (effective ex-showroom).
So, for someone who wants a feature-packed commuter, the Oben is the perfect first electric motorcycle. But, if you are looking for something light, which has only the most necessary features, the RV400 will serve you well.
