Intro
The wait for Royal Enfield’s electric revolution is finally over. The Indian motorcycling giant has commenced the deliveries of its first ever electric motorcycle, the Flying Flea C6, marking a historic milestone in its 120-plus-year history. The brand has chosen the city of Bengaluru as the launchpad, as it is adopting a measured, city-by-city rollout strategy before progressively expanding to other major metropolitan areas across India in the coming months.
Strategic Pricing and the BaaS Advantage
Royal Enfield has positioned the Flying Flea C6 as a premium “city+” mobility solution, yet it has introduced a highly disruptive pricing structure to draw in traditional internal combustion engine buyers. The electric motorcycle is priced at Rs 2.79 lakh (ex-showroom). However, buyers looking for a significantly lower barrier to entry can opt for the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. Under this program, the upfront cost drops down to Rs 1.99 lakh, separating the battery cost from the motorcycle. The battery usage will be billed separately.
A Dedicated EV Ecosystem
Realising that electric vehicles call for a completely different owning experience, Royal Enfield has put in place a dedicated support system for its Flying Flea range of products. In the case of Bengaluru, a hub-and-spoke servicing system has been instituted. The service hub located in the BTM Layout will be responsible for diagnostics and repair services, while the spoke centers along with shop-in-shop services will take care of the routine servicing requirements. To ensure that the customers feel assured regarding the safety of their vehicles, every C6 is available with 24×7 roadside assistance.
Retro Charm With Modern Agility
The Flying Flea C6 effortlessly combines nostalgic design with contemporary technology. Taking its name and soul from the legendary WWII-era Royal Enfield paratrooper motorcycles, the C6 stands out with its forged aluminum Girder front fork, which is a rare, vintage suspension setup completely reimagined to offer exceptional modern rigidity and ride comfort.
Despite the heavy battery pack, clever engineering and a magnesium battery casing have kept the kerb weight down to a remarkably light 124 kg, making it the lightest Royal Enfield currently in production. This low weight, paired with 19-inch wheels and narrow 90-section tires, ensures highly responsive urban agility.
Powertrain and Technology Specs
At the heart of the C6 is a 3.91 kWh lithium-ion battery feeding a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The setup produces 20.6 bhp (15.4 kW) and 60 Nm of motor torque, which translates to a massive claimed 400 Nm of torque at the rear wheel via a smooth belt-drive system. This enables a brisk 0-60 kmph sprint in just 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 115 kmph.
On a full charge, the C6 promises an IDC-certified range of 154 km. Charging is highly convenient for home users; utilizing a standard 16A wall socket, the battery can be replenished from 20 to 80 percent in just over an hour, with a full 0-100 percent charge taking 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The technology suite is equally impressive. The key command centre for the rider is a 3.5-inch circular TFT touchscreen. It also offers a full-screen map navigation, alongside music control, and OTA updates. Rider aids are plentiful as well, including lean-sensitive ABS, traction control, tip-over alerts, five different riding modes, and regenerative braking settings.
