Yamaha, the Japanese bikemaker, has launched a new electric scooter in India, called the Yamaha Aerox E. It is priced at Rs 2,81,600 (ex-showroom). The Aerox E is positioned as a premium, performance-oriented electric maxi-scooter with enthusiasts in focus, who want sporty styling and engaging performance. While it is launched in India, the important thing to note is that it is available in just 5 cities of India: Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and Chennai.
With its aggressive silhouette, inspired by the petrol-powered Yamaha Aerox 155, the electric version retains a similar design while introducing a completely electric powertrain. It is only available in a singe Bluish White Cocktail colour scheme. We think a more diverse colour palette would have made the scooter a lot more appealing proposition to the prospective buyers.
Yamaha Aerox E Range

Power is supplied by a combined 3 kWh (dual swappable 1.5 kWh units) lithium-ion battery pack, with a claimed riding range of 117 km on a full charge. The real-world range of the Aerox E could be somewhere around 90 km.
What I find interesting about the Aerox E is that it can be ridden with a single battery back. You can leave the other one at home charging for more convenience. But, this comes at the cost of reduced performance and half the claimed range. The charging time is 3 hours 10 minutes for a single battery pack, and the combined charging time is 6 hours 20 minutes. But, this could extend a little bit, and is dependent on the quality of power at the specific location.
Here are all the details about the Yamaha Aerox E at a glance:

Yamaha Aerox E Performance and Ride Modes:

The Aerox E is driven by a 9.4 kW (peak output) Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) that develops 48 Nm of peak torque. The scooter has a claimed top speed of 95.5 kmph (unladen) in Power Mode with the Boost function. Riders can choose between Eco, Standard, and Power ride modes, while the dedicated Boost Mode provides additional acceleration for overtaking and quick launches. Do note that the Boost is available for a short duration, and you have to let it recharge before you can use it again.

Yamaha Aerox E Dimensions, Suspension, Brakes And More
The newly launched Yamaha Aerox E does retain the sporty proportions of the petrol-powered Aerox 155. It measures 1,980 mm in length, 700 mm in width, and 1,150 mm in height. The wheelbase is 1,360 mm wide, measured from wheel centres (axles). The scooter tips the scales at around 139 kg (kerb weight).
Braking is handled by disc brakes with a single-channel ABS at the front end. The scooter rolls on 14-inch alloy wheels, which should practically give it more stability.

Yamaha Aerox E Rivals
The Yamaha Aerox E, with its Rs 2.82 lakh price tag, rivals the Ather 450 Apex, TVS X Electric, the recently launched Keeway Hypevolt-R, and the upcoming Ultraviolette tesseract that is scheduled to be launched somewhere around 2027.
Yamaha Aerox E Price Analysis With Rivals
| Scooter | Ex-showroom Price | Difference vs Aerox E | Claimed IDC Range | Peak Motor Power |
| Yamaha Aerox E | Rs 2.82 lakh | — | 117 km (IDC) | 9.4 kW |
| TVS X Electric | Rs 2.50 lakh | Rs 32,000 cheaper | 140 km (IDC) | 11 kW |
| Keeway Hypevolt-R | Rs 1.99 lakh | Rs 83,000 cheaper | 180 km (IDC) | 12 kW |
| Ather 450 Apex | Rs 1.95 lakh | Rs 87,000 cheaper | 157 km (IDC) | 7 kW |
| Ultraviolette Tesseract | Rs 1.45 lakh (introductory) | Rs 1.37 lakh cheaper | Up to 261 km (IDC claimed) | 15 kW |
Now, after this comparison, the Yamaha Aerox E is a very hard-to-justify purchase. Every other scooter on the list has something extra compared to the Aerox E, and at a cheaper price point. In our opinion, if the brand had priced it around the Rs 1.80 lakh mark, even then the Aerox making sense would have been a long shot. Now, with this very, very expensive price tag, the Aerox E is just another product with an unreasonable sticker (inspired by the Suzuki e-Access), and it would only make any sense to brand loyalists.
