The premium electric vehicle market in India continues to expand with exciting new options for chauffeur-driven buyers. BMW has started bookings for its upcoming i5 Long Wheelbase model. The luxury carmaker is bringing the vehicle to the country in an exclusive First Edition guise, with the initial batch strictly limited to 99 units. The interesting thing about this car is that instead of importing fully built cars, BMW will assemble the i5 LWB locally at its Chennai plant via the completely knocked-down route. This makes it the very first electric sedan produced by BMW in India.
BMW i5 Long Wheelbase First Edition Dimensions and Ride Comfort
Space is the ultimate luxury for the target demographic of this car. The i5 LWB measures a massive 5,175 millimetres in overall length and sits on an extended 3,105-millimetre wheelbase. This extra length would directly translate into exceptional legroom for passengers sitting in the back. BMW has ALSO equipped the rear axle with an adaptive air suspension system to smooth out broken roads.
BMW i5 Long Wheelbase First Edition Battery, Range, and Performance
Under the floorboard, the sedan packs an 81.6 kWh battery. This battery powers a rear-mounted electric motor that produces roughly 268 hp, delivering a 0 to 100 kmph time of 6.7 seconds. More importantly, the battery is claimed to deliver a maximum driving range of up to 669 kilometres on a single charge based on the MIDC testing cycle.

The limited First Edition brings several unique touches to help it stand out. On the outside, it comes finished in a sleek Carbon Black Metallic paint contrasted by Titanium Bronze accents. Inside the cabin, the dashboard features Fineline open-pore fine wood trim combined with Silver Bronze inlays. A special First Edition laser engraving sits on the dashboard as well. Rear passengers also receive a dedicated entertainment package complete with a tablet and a mounting holder.
