      What's good

      What's good

      • Incredible Acceleration: The 3.6s 0-100 time is addictive and class-leading.
      • Sustainable Luxury: The recycled interior materials feel modern, premium, and ethical.
      • Google Built-in: One of the most seamless infotainment experiences available today.
      What's not so good

      What's not so good

      • Tight Rear Seat: Legroom is at a premium for rear passengers.
      • Screen-Heavy Controls: Adjusting mirrors and AC via the screen is frustrating.
      • Small Boot: Not the best for carrying heavy luggage for a full family.

The Volvo EX30 is a stylish SUV that will stick out in a crowd thanks to its unique Scandinavian-inspired design and new wheel design. In terms of design, the Volvo EX30 is very similar to the EX90, with its closed-off grille and distinctive LED headlights. Nonetheless, the crossover-style design, with 19-inch alloy wheels, looks purposeful and stylish. The 12.3-inch vertically stacked touchscreen dominates the dash, with the rest being basic.

      Expert Verdict

The Volvo EX30 is a compact powerhouse that proves sustainable luxury doesn’t have to be boring. It’s the fastest-accelerating Volvo ever, blending Scandinavian minimalism with explosive electric performance and a clever, eco-friendly cabin.

      Volvo EX30 Design

      ★ 8.5/10

      Exterior

The EX30 is a masterclass in “less is more.” It’s compact, muscular, and instantly recognisable as a Volvo, thanks to the “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights that now have a digitised, pixelated look. It ditches the traditional grille for a smooth, shield-like front end that improves aerodynamics. The short overhangs and large wheels (up to 19 inches) give it a planted, sporty stance that makes it look bigger than it actually is. It’s the smallest SUV in Volvo’s lineup, but it arguably has the most personality.

      Interior

The cabin is a radical departure from tradition. Volvo has moved almost everything to a single 12.3-inch vertical screen in the center of the dash. There is no instrument cluster behind the steering wheel; even the window switches have been moved to the center console to save space and reduce wiring. The use of recycled materials, like woven flax, upcycled denim, and ground plastic waste, gives the interior a unique, high-end “Nordic lounge” texture that feels far more interesting than standard leather.

      Build Quality

Despite being the entry-level Volvo, the build quality is top-tier. Every panel feels solid, and the “soundbar” that runs across the top of the dashboard is a clever piece of engineering that eliminates the need for speakers in the doors. This not only cleans up the design but also makes the doors feel lighter yet more robust.

The EX30 is a design triumph. Volvo has managed to make ‘recycled’ feel ‘luxurious.’ Moving the speakers to a soundbar and the screens to a single unit isn’t just about minimalism; it’s a clever way to maximise cabin width in a small footprint.

      Volvo EX30 Features

      ★ 8/10

The EX30 is built on a Google-based ecosystem, making it incredibly intuitive for smartphone users.

      • Infotainment: The central screen runs Google Automotive OS, meaning Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Play Store are built in. It’s fast, fluid, and supports wireless Apple CarPlay.
      • Audio: The Harman Kardon Soundbar is a standout feature, delivering a wide, immersive soundstage that fills the cabin beautifully despite its unconventional placement.
      • Smart Storage: Because the speakers were moved, the door pockets are massive. There’s also a sliding center console with versatile cupholders and a hidden drawer for rear passengers.

The Google integration is flawless, but the decision to put the side-mirror adjustments inside a touchscreen menu is a step too far for ergonomics. You’ll eventually get used to it, but it’s a classic case of ‘tech for tech’s sake.’

      Volvo EX30 Performance & Range

      ★ 10/10

The Volvo EX30 is a genuine shock to the system, especially when you consider its “sleeper” aesthetic. In India, it arrived with two distinct personalities: the Single Motor Extended Range and the Twin Motor Performance. The former uses a 69 kWh NMC battery to put down a respectable 272 hp, clocking 0–100 km/h in a brisk 5.3 seconds. However, it’s the Twin Motor version that steals the headlines. With a staggering 428 hp and 543 Nm of torque, it rockets to triple digits in just 3.6 seconds. That kind of explosive, neck-snapping acceleration is usually reserved for high-end supercars, not a compact Scandi-SUV.

When it comes to range, there’s always a bit of a gap between the lab and the road. While the WLTP cycle claims up to 476 km for the single motor, our time behind the wheel in typical Indian conditions told a more practical story. Navigating through heavy city crawls and keeping up with highway speeds with the AC blasting, we found that you can reliably expect around 380 to 400 km on a full charge. The efficiency is actually quite impressive, given the power on tap.

The acceleration in the Twin Motor version is genuinely startling. It’s a sleeper; people don’t expect a cute, compact Volvo to pin them into their seats with such violence. It’s easily the best performance-per-rupee car on the market.

      Volvo EX30 Ride & Handling

      ★ 8/10
      • Handling: Because it has a short wheelbase and a low center of gravity, the EX30 is incredibly “zippy.” It darts through traffic with ease and is a joy to park in tight Indian mall basements.
      • Ride Quality: The suspension is tuned for a European feel, firm and controlled. It doesn’t “float” over bumps; instead, it tracks them accurately. While it’s stable at high speeds, you will feel sharp ruts and potholes more clearly than you would in a softer car like the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

It’s a ‘driver’s SUV.’ The steering is light but quick. While the firm ride might bother those used to pillowy luxury cars, enthusiasts will appreciate how flat it stays in corners. It feels like a high-riding hot hatch.

      Volvo EX30 Safety

      ★ 10/10

It’s a Volvo, so safety is the core of its DNA. The 2024 Volvo EX 30 scored a 5-star rating at the Euro NCAP crash testing.

      • Safe Space Technology: The EX30 features a special alert to prevent “dooring” accidents, warning you if a cyclist or runner is approaching from behind before you open the door.
      • Hardware: It is packed with airbags, including a far-side airbag between the driver and passenger to prevent head-to-head contact during a side impact.
      • ADAS: The Park Pilot Assist is one of the best in the world; it can identify parking spots and steer the car into parallel, curved, or perpendicular spaces with minimal driver input.

Volvo’s focus on ‘vulnerable road users’ is commendable. The door-opening alert is a lifesaver in heavy Indian traffic. Structurally, the car uses high-strength steel to protect the battery, which is a non-negotiable for Volvo.

      Volvo EX30 Space & Comfort

      ★ 6.5/10
      • Cabin Space: The front is spacious and airy, but the rear seat is tight. Adults over 5’10” will find the legroom limited for long journeys. It is definitely more of a “four-adults” car than a five-adults car.
      • Storage: At 318 litres, the boot space is relatively small. However, there is a hidden under-floor compartment for extra gear. There is a tiny 7-litre frunk under the hood, just enough for a charging cable or a puncture kit.

The EX30 is perfect for young couples or small families. If you regularly travel with five adults, this isn’t the car for you. But for a city commuter, the trade-off of rear space for a compact, easy-to-drive footprint is worth it.

      Volvo EX30 Charging & Warranty

      ★ 8.5/10
      • Charging: On a 153 kW DC fast charger, the EX30 can go from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes. This is faster than most of its rivals.
      • Warranty: Volvo India provides an 8-year/1,60,000 km battery warranty and a comprehensive 3-year vehicle warranty. They also include an 11kW home charger as part of the package.

The 153 kW charging speed is a highlight. If you can find a high-capacity charger on the highway, your charging stop will likely be shorter than your lunch break. Moreover, the standard 11kW charger helps you charge the car faster at home.

      Volvo EX30 Service & Network

      ★ 8/10

Volvo has a boutique but very reliable network in India.

      • Service: Their service centres are known for high-quality care and personalised attention. Because the EX30 is built on a global EV platform, software diagnostics can often be done remotely.
      • Reliability: EVs have fewer moving parts, and Volvo’s electric motors have shown excellent long-term durability in international markets.

Volvo owners generally report higher satisfaction levels than those of the ‘Big Three’ German brands. While the network isn’t as wide as the local players, it covers all major Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities with premium support.
