The Tata Nano remains one of the most recognisable cars ever sold in India. Although its production ended in 2018, the teeny-tiny hatchback never completely disappeared from our minds. Over the past few years, rumours surrounding a possible Tata Nano EV have surfaced multiple times, and a concept was also showcased at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.
Tata Nano EV Price (Expected)
The Tata Nano EV is expected to be a people’s car, and will be the most affordable offering from the brand. It will also most likely be the most affordable electric car in the whole EV industry, with prices starting at as low as Rs 3 lakh (ex-showroom). With this pricing, the Tata Nano EV will undercut the recently launched Tata Tiago EV. The new Tata Nano EV is expected to come in three variants: Base, Mid, and Top, with different battery packs, performance levels, and feature sets.

Tata Nano EV Battery, Range And Performance
The upcoming Tata Nano EV is expected to get a 18-24 kWh battery pack, which will give it a claimed range of around 250 km. The true range of Tata Nano EV will be somewhere around 200 km. The Nano is expected to get a rear-mounted electric motor that will make 30-45 kW (40-60) PS of peak power.
With this motor and battery pack, the Tata Nano Ev will have a top speed around 120 kmph, which is more than enough for its intended purpose – the dreaded city commute. The microelectric car will also have AC fast-charging support, which will make it a lot more convenient. With this tech, the charging time could be drastically reduced to an expected figure of 10-80% in just under an hour.

Now, the Tata Nano EV, being a new generation car, will definitely be equipped with a lot of features which will make it practical, convenient, and safe. Our speculated list includes the following:

But, There Is A ‘BUT’
Tata had showcased a Nano EV prototype more than a decade ago, and used the learnings from that to build the recent lineup. So, it’s not a vague thing to speculate that the brand is not capable of making one today.
Despite growing online rumours, the brand has made no official announcement regarding the Nano EV. Several unofficial renderings and concept images have circulated online over the years, leading many to believe the car is close to production.
But, as of now, there is no confirmation on its launch timeline, specifications or pricing. We think we could get to see a prototype soon in the next 2-3 years, i.e., around 2028-29, as there’s nothing in Tata’s arsenal right now to compete with the MG Comet EV, which is doing quite well in urban markets.
