Quick reads
- Closely resembles the Vision T concept revealed in August 2025
- Boxy silhouette, flared wheel arches, and squared-off headlights giving it the offroad-ready stance
- Built on the flexible NU_IQ architecture, which can underpin both electric and ICE SUVs
A completely camouflaged prototype of the Mahindra Vision T was finally spotted undergoing road tests, giving us the very first real glimpse at how the futuristic Mahindra concept could translate into a production-ready vehicle. The Vision T appears to be serving a direct evolution of the Thar.e concept from 2023, with a match between rugged off-road heritage and modern technological advancements.
Exterior Design and Visual Cues
Despite the heavy camouflage, the test mule proudly displays its adventurous DNA. The overall shape retains the aggressive, boxy proportions that defined the Vision T concept unveiled in August 2025, and patented later in India. Up front, the SUV sports a flat clamshell-style bonnet and an upright windscreen. The wide grille incorporates vertical elements flanked by squared-off headlights.
Moving to the side profile, the vehicle sits on massive wheels that appear to be 19 or 20 inches in diameter. Flared wheel arches and flat side steps further emphasise its muscular stance. The outer rear view mirrors are large and resemble the ones on the Thar Roxx. The presence of side steps hints at the higher cabin position of the SUV.
The camouflage has hidden the rear quarter glass, and while the spy images suggest the absence of an externally mounted spare, we expect the production version to carry one like the Thar Roxx. The rear section features an upright tailgate and expansive rear glass.
Interior Features and Technology
Glimpses into the cabin reveal a layout focused on utility while having modern digitisation. A digital instrument display sits prominently behind the steering wheel. Large grab handles integrated into the A-pillars highlight the rugged intentions of the vehicle. The original Vision T concept featured a massive portrait-orientated central touchscreen alongside physical toggle switches. While the spy shots do not fully expose the center console, we expect Mahindra to carry over several of those premium technological elements into the final cabin.
Platform and Powertrain Versatility
The most crucial aspect of the Vision T lies beneath its skin. Unlike the original Thar.e, which was presented as a born electric vehicle, the Vision T utilises the new NU_IQ architecture. This highly flexible platform was designed to accommodate multiple energy sources. It supports petrol, diesel, hybrid, and pure electric powertrains. The architecture also allows for both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.
This will also mean that the SUV will be based on a monocoque platform instead of a traditional ladder frame chassis, which will result in better on-road manners. The length of the SUV is expected to be around 4.3 metres, while Mahindra could offer a front-wheel-drive option as well along with the all-wheel-drive layout to make the entry price more accessible.
While the company has stated that NU_IQ-based models will enter production starting in 2027, the exact launch timeline for the electric off-roader remains unconfirmed. With an expected starting price tag hovering between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, the upcoming SUV promises to be a massive disruptor in the premium utility segment.
