The BYD Denza Z9 GT electric shooting brake has been spotted on Indian soil for the first time, just days ahead of its scheduled debut on Friday, November 13, 2026. Photographed both on public roads in Gurugram and parked inside a dealership stockyard alongside the Denza D9 electric MPV, the low-slung five-seater confirms that the first display and media units have already landed in the country. Expected to be priced between Rs 1.20 crore and Rs 1.50 crore ex-showroom, the Z9 GT will spearhead the Indian entry of Denza, the luxury sub-brand owned by Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD.
What the Spotted India Spec Denza Z9 GT Reveals

The Denza Z9 GT photographed in India is finished in the same Fjord Green paint shade featured in Denza’s recent local teaser campaign. Designed under the direction of former Audi design chief Wolfgang Egger, the car pairs a long, sweeping roofline and a raked rear windscreen with wide rear haunches.
Several hardware details are clearly visible on the car spotted in Gurugram and at the dealer yard:
- A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor pod positioned right above the front windscreen, confirming that the Indian specification carries hardware for Level 2 Plus advanced driver assistance systems.
- Multi-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli tyres, with contrasting yellow brake callipers visible behind the spokes.
- Conventional door mounted outside rearview mirrors and flush-fitting door handles. While Denza offers camera-based digital side mirrors as an option in markets like the UK, the unit in India uses standard glass mirrors.
- Split Matrix LED headlamps up front with 108 lighting zones, matched at the back by elongated horizontal LED tail lamps, a gloss black rear diffuser, and a split roof spoiler housing a central vertical brake lamp inspired by Formula 1 cars.
- An E3 badge on the tailgate, which points directly to the dedicated three-motor platform underneath the floor.
e3 Platform, Tri Motor Powertrain, Crab Walk
Globally, Denza sells the Z9 GT in both plug-in hybrid and pure electric forms. The car arriving in India next week is expected to be the flagship all-electric AWD specification.
Built on the e3 architecture, the electric Z9 GT uses a three-motor setup comprising one AC asynchronous motor on the front axle and two independent permanent magnet synchronous motors on the rear axle. Combined system output stands at 850 kW, and up to 1,210 Nm of torque. That power sends the five-metre shooting brake from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in a claimed 2.7 seconds. On the WLTP cycle, this battery is rated for a claimed range of around 600 kilometres.
In overseas markets, the 2026 Z9 GT supports BYD’s dual-gun 1,500 kW DC Flash Charging architecture, which is claimed to take the battery from 10 per cent to 97 per cent in just 9 minutes, though India doesn’t have that kind of infrastructure yet.
The 3 platforms also link the two independent rear motors with active rear wheel steering. By turning the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels at low speeds, the Z9 GT shrinks its turning radius. The system also enables a diagonal crabwalk mode to slide into narrow parallel parking spots and a 360-degree compass turn that pivots the car around a locked front wheel.
What SearchEV Thinks
Bringing a 1,140 bhp shooting brake estate to a country obsessed with high-riding SUVs is a bold way for BYD to launch the Denza brand. On paper, the Z9 GT outguns almost everything in the Rs 1.20 crore to Rs 1.50 crore bracket, including the BMW i5 M60 xDrive while matching the straight line speed of a Porsche Taycan Turbo at a fraction of the price. Ultimately, since Indian customers spending over Rs 1.20 crore usually prioritise German badge value, Denza will rely on the D9 luxury MPV for steady sales while using the Z9 GT as a showroom magnet to prove just how far BYD’s electric engineering has come.
