      ELECTRIC CAR SALES JULY 2026

      Quick reads

      • July saw 30,806 electric vehicles sold across India. This is a small 3.55 percent drop from June 2026.
      • Tata Electric keeps the top spot with 12,750 units sold. Mahindra Electric and MG Motors follow close behind.
      • Hyundai Motors showed the highest monthly growth. They jumped 48.48 percent from June to July.
      • Mahindra Electric and MG Motors both experienced sales dip in July.
      • Total electric car sales reached 176,434 units by July 2026. This is a 74.53 percent increase over the same time in 2025.

The Indian electric vehicle market has grown from being a niche market, and while we did see a tiny drop in sales from June to July 2026, the big picture looks very different. When you look at the total numbers for the year so far, electric car sales have skyrocketed. People are buying battery powered cars at a much faster rate than they did in 2025. Tata Electric remains the undisputed king of the hill. But rivals like Mahindra and MG are fighting hard for their share of the pie. We also have new players like Maruti Suzuki finally making a dent in the monthly charts. Here is a breakdown of the exact numbers and see how the top brands performed in July.

Here is the complete sales data for the top 10 electric car brands in July 2026.

July Rank Brand July Sales June Sales MOM Growth
      1 Tata Electric 12,750 12,167 4.79%
      2 Mahindra Electric 6,722 7,307 -8.01%
      3 MG Motors 5,283 5,874 -10.06%
      4 Maruti Suzuki 1,484 1,869 -20.60%
      5 Vinfast 1,425 1,390 2.52%
      6 BYD 700 885 -20.90%
      7 Hyundai motors 539 363 48.48%
      8 Kia India 440 517 -14.89%
      9 BMW 350 504 -30.56%
      10 Mercedes-Benz 159 239 -33.47%
      Total  30,806 31,939 -3.54%

*(all the above data has been taken from Vahan portal.)

      Tata Electric

Tata continues to dominate the electric car market in India. The company sold 12,750 electric vehicles in July. This is a 4.79 percent increase from their June numbers. Tata relies heavily on a wide variety of cars to get these numbers. The Nexon EV and the Punch EV remain one its biggest sellers. They also get steady sales from the smaller Tiago EV which was recently updated. Furthermore, the brand recently expanded its lineup by launching the Sierra EV, with its major deliveries commencing in July itself.

      Mahindra Electric

Mahindra took the second spot with 6,722 units sold in July. They did see an 8.01 percent drop compared to June. Even with this small drop, Mahindra is in a very strong position this year. Models like the XEV 9S have proven to be hugely successful for the brand. The brand also has a bunch of upcoming EV models in the pipeline, helping close the gap with Tata.

      MG Motors

MG Motors secured third place by selling 5,283 electric cars in July. Like Mahindra, they faced a slight month on month drop of 10.06 percent. The Windsor EV gives MG a massive edge in the crossover EV segment with its strong focus on rear seat comfort. It remains the best selling model for the brand in India, however, it does face new competition in form of the Syros EV and lower variants of the Sierra EV.

      Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki is a relatively new force in the electric vehicle charts. They grabbed the fourth position with 1,484 sales in July. They did experience a 20.60 percent drop from June. For years, Maruti stayed away from battery powered cars. That changed this year with the introduction of the e-Vitara. However, its badge engineered version from Toyota has also been introduced, and with models like Sierra EV coming into the picture as well, the e-Vitara’s sales have been hampered.

      Hyundai Motors

Hyundai claims the seventh spot on the list. They sold 539 electric vehicles in July. This represents a 48.48 percent jump from their June sales of just 363 units. This makes Hyundai the fastest growing brand on a monthly basis in this list. The premium Ioniq 5 has always been their flagship electric car. However, the increase in sales comes from the Creta EV. Hyundai introduced the BaaS program for the Creta Electric, effectively giving it a starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh within the program. The brand has also been running notable discounts on the model.

      Conclusion

July might have seen a small dip in monthly numbers. But the electric vehicle market in India is healthier than ever. With new launches like the e Vitara and Creta EV entering the market, buyers finally have options in every price bracket. The rest of 2026 promises to be very exciting for anyone looking to buy a battery powered car.
