Mercedes Benz India has launched the all new GLC Electric at an introductory price of Rs 78.50 lakh ex showroom. Offered in a single GLC 400 4Matic trim, the midsize luxury SUV is locally assembled at the company’s Chakan facility in Pune. That local assembly allows Mercedes Benz to price the electric model close to the standard petrol and diesel GLC.
Instead of using a standalone EQ nameplate like the larger EQE SUV, this model folds electric propulsion directly back into the core GLC family. With the smaller GLA Electric yet to make its local debut, the locally assembled GLC 400 4Matic now serves as the most accessible electric SUV from the three pointed star in India.
The automaker confirmed that the electric SUV has already gathered more than 1,000 bookings since order books opened, with showroom deliveries scheduled to begin around Diwali this month.
800V Architecture, 94 kWh Battery, and Dual Motor Performance
The all new GLC Electric sits on a dedicated electric platform built around an 800 volt electrical architecture. Power comes from a 94 kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt battery pack that feeds two permanent magnet synchronous motors, one on each axle, giving the SUV permanent all wheel drive.
Together, the dual motors produce 360 kW, alongside 800 Nm of peak torque. The GLC 400 4Matic sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in a claimed 4.3 seconds. Top speed is electronically capped at 210 kilometers per hour, and the SUV is rated to tow up to 2.4 tonnes with a 100 kilogram drawbar load.

Conclusion (What SearchEV Thinks)
Pricing a 489 hp, 94 kWh luxury electric SUV at Rs 78.50 lakh ex showroom is a smart move by Mercedes Benz India. When an electric vehicle costs almost the same as its petrol and diesel counterparts while delivering a 4.3 second 0 to 100 kmph sprint, a 711 kilometer claimed range, and a pillar to pillar 39.1 inch screen, the usual price barrier around buying a luxury EV disappears.
Crossing 1,000 bookings before launch day proves that Indian luxury buyers recognise the value on offer. With its closest direct rival, the long wheelbase BMW iX3, not arriving until 202, the locally assembled GLC Electric has an open runway in the Rs 80 lakh luxury SUV segment.
