Expert Verdict
The MG M9 is a “private jet on wheels”. It gets a massive, silent cabin with high-end first-class seats, which make it utmostly comfortable. If you are looking to be chauffeur driven and want a quiet-luxurious experience, this is the car you pick for it. Also, with the claimed range sitting somewhere around 500 km, it makes for a very capable mile muncher.
MG M9 Design
The M9 successfully mimics the ‘moving fortress’ aesthetic of ultra-luxury MPVs with clean, sophisticated lines. Its build quality feels substantial, specifically engineered to isolate the cabin from the chaos of Indian roads.
Exterior
The MG M9 commands attention through its sheer scale and minimalist “Galaxy” design language. At 5,270 mm long and 2,000 mm wide, it has a larger footprint than many full-sized SUVs. The front is dominated by a clean panel with integrated “Double U” LED headlights and a ripple-effect light bar that gives it a futuristic, almost spaceship-like face. Along the sides, electric sliding doors provide easy access, while 19-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels help reduce drag. The rear features a waterfall LED light bar that looks stunning at night, emphasising the car’s significant width.
Interior
Step inside, and the M9 feels more like a lounge than a vehicle. The dashboard is wrapped in high-quality leather and suede, featuring a clean, button-free aesthetic. A massive 12.3-inch touchscreen acts as the command centre, complemented by a 7-inch digital driver’s display. The use of premium Nappa leather and soft-touch materials extends even to the door pads and lower console. The cabin is bathed in light thanks to dual sunroofs, a smaller one for the driver and a massive panoramic glass roof for the rear passengers.
Build Quality
As the flagship of the “MG Select” premium channel, the M9 is built to a much higher standard than the brand’s entry-level models. The structural rigidity is excellent, thanks to the high-strength steel frame that encases the battery pack. On the move, the car is remarkably silent, with acoustic glass and heavy insulation keeping wind and road noise at bay. Every switch and tactile surface feels “weighted” and expensive, ensuring a premium touch every time you interact with the car.

MG has loaded the M9 with every possible comfort feature, from 16-way adjustable seats to a 13-speaker JBL audio system. It’s essentially a high-tech sanctuary that leaves almost nothing to the imagination.

Real-world Range: Based on our real-world testing in Indian city crawls and 100 km/h highway runs, you can expect a reliable range of 400–440 km. This range is perfectly suited for a full day of executive duties within a city like Mumbai or Bengaluru, or for a comfortable long trip. The energy management system is quite mature, accurately predicting the remaining battery percentage even under heavy AC usage.
MG M9 Ride & Handling
The M9 prioritises a soft, ‘wafting’ ride quality that soaks up road imperfections like they aren’t even there. It handles like a large ship, stable and confident on highways, but requires a patient hand in city traffic.
The suspension setup consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear, specifically tuned for a plush ride. On highways, the M9 glides over undulations, providing the kind of stability you’d expect from a heavy, long-wheelbase limousine. In the city, it filters out sharp bumps and potholes effectively, though passengers in the third row may feel a slight vertical movement over the largest speed breakers. The steering is light and effortless, making the 5.2-metre beast surprisingly easy to point in the right direction, though you’ll always be aware of its massive dimensions during U-turns.

Safety is a core pillar for the M9, boasting a 5-star Euro NCAP and Australian NCAP rating and a comprehensive ADAS Level 2 suite. The M9 is one of the safest MPVs on the market. Its proactive safety tech is designed to act as a digital shield for high-profile passengers.
- Protection: It comes standard with 7 airbags, including a center airbag between the front seats and a driver-side knee airbag.

The flat floor and 3.2-metre wheelbase create a massive amount of “living space”. You can literally walk between the second-row seats to reach the back. With its 1,840 mm height, there is plenty of vertical space even for passengers wearing turbans or hats. The second-row “Presidential” seats offer a Zero Gravity mode, allowing you to recline almost fully.
In the first and second rows, under-thigh support is excellent thanks to adjustable seat bases. The third row, while much better than most SUVs, has a slightly raised floor, leading to a minor “knees-up” position for very tall adults on long journeys.
MG M9 Charging & Warranty
Rapid DC charging support ensures that even this large battery doesn’t keep you waiting for long. The charging experience for the MG M9 is designed to fit into a busy executive schedule.
- DC Fast Charging: On a 160 kW charger, the battery can go from 10% to 80% in about 30–35 minutes. Even on more common 50 kW public chargers, a 90-minute stop will provide enough range for a long journey.
