Mercedes-Benz India has opened bookings for the all-new CLA Electric sedan, marking the brand’s new entry point into its luxury EV lineup. The electric sedan has been introduced at a starting price of ₹55 lakh (ex-showroom, tentative). Built on the brand’s Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, the new CLA EV focuses heavily on efficiency and technology.
One of its biggest highlights is the claimed driving range of up to 792 km, making it one of the longest-range electric cars currently announced for the segment. Bookings have already started, with deliveries scheduled to begin later in 2026.
Variants And Pricing
Mercedes-Benz is introducing the CLA EV in two variants, each designed with a slightly different type of buyer in mind. The CLA 200 serves as the entry-level version and is priced at ₹55 lakh. It comes with the Progressive Line design package and focuses more on comfort and everyday usability.
The higher variant is the CLA 250+, priced at ₹59 lakh. This version comes with the AMG Line package as standard, which adds sportier styling elements such as revised bumpers and 18-inch AMG alloy wheels.
Performance, Battery, and Range
The CLA 250+ comes with a larger 85.5 kWh battery pack and uses a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 272 bhp. This setup focuses on delivering strong performance along with a longer driving range. According to Mercedes-Benz, this version can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.
It also delivers a WLTP-claimed driving range of up to 792 km, which is among the highest figures for an electric sedan in this category. The CLA 200 variant uses a smaller battery pack and offers a claimed range of around 542 km, while its 0–100 km/h acceleration time is around 7.5 seconds.
Both variants use an 800-volt electrical system, which allows DC fast charging at speeds of up to 240 kW. In practical terms, if you plug the CLA 250+ into a compatible fast charger, it can gain about 400 km of driving range in around 20 minutes. That means shorter charging stops and a much easier experience on long trips.
Design And Exterior Highlights
The new CLA EV keeps Mercedes-Benz’s familiar four-door coupe shape, but adds a few modern design updates. At the front, there’s a closed grille panel filled with 142 small illuminated three-pointed stars, giving the car a very distinct face. The streamlined form does not only speak of looks. It also helps the sedan cut through the air more easily. The car has a drag coefficient of 0.21 Cd, which improves efficiency and helps extend the driving range.
Interior Technology And Features
Technology takes centre stage in the CLA EV. It features a dual-screen setup, including a 14-inch central infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster in front of the driver for key driving information.
It runs the latest MBUX platform, now enhanced with AI capabilities, including integration with ChatGPT and Google Gemini. It also gets a voice assistant that understands commands more naturally and responds more conversationally, making everyday functions easier to use. For practicality, the electric sedan offers a 101-litre front trunk (frunk) along with a 405-litre rear boot.
Booking And Delivery Timeline
Mercedes-Benz has begun taking bookings for the new CLA EV with a token amount of ₹1.5 lakh. As an introductory offer, early customers will also receive a complimentary 22 kW wall-box charger, and the company will handle the installation as well.
Deliveries of the CLA 250+ are expected to begin around April 2026. The CLA 200 will arrive a little later, with deliveries expected to begin around June 2026. Customers who choose this variant may have to wait slightly longer compared to the CLA 250+. Thanks to its long range and new technology, the CLA EV will be up against electric cars like the BYD Seal and the upcoming Tesla Model Y in the premium EV sedan category.
The launch also highlights Mercedes-Benz’s ongoing push to grow its electric lineup in India, with the CLA EV serving as a more accessible entry point into the brand’s EV range.
