Jaguar is currently navigating one of the most drastic and polarising brand reinventions in automotive history. Having systematically wound down its internal combustion engine (ICE) lineup, including its last remaining vehicle, the F-Pace SUV, the British automaker has entirely cleared the deck for its new all-electric era.
The spearhead of this “complete reset” is an imposing four-door electric grand tourer known as the Type 01. However, we will have to wait slightly longer to see the final product. During its recent investor day on June 17, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) confirmed that the global debut of the production-spec Type 01 has been delayed once again, with the unveiling now officially scheduled for October 2026 in New York.
A Timeline of Delays and Name Reveals
The journey to the Type 01’s final form has been drawn out. Jaguar first teased its new design direction with the dramatic two-door ‘Type 00’ concept revealed in 2024. Following this, the production-spec model was originally slated to break cover in 2025. This timeline was subsequently pushed to September 2026, and now, to October 2026,making this the second official postponement of the flagship vehicle’s debut.
Despite the delays, the marketing machinery has been actively drip-feeding details. Just last month, in May 2026, the company announced the adoption of the ‘Type 01’ name and revealed heavily camouflaged prototype vehicles at the Monaco E-Prix. The explanation by the brand goes that the use of ‘Type’ indicates respect to legendary cars such as the E-Type, ‘0’ is zero tailpipe emissions, while ‘1’ is its first car of Jaguar’s new era.
The Rebrand: A Complete Reset
The Type 01 is expected to deliver the impossible task of reinventing the Jaguar brand. It means leaving behind the premium segment, where it competed against BMW and Audi, to focus on a niche, exclusive and luxury market competing against brands such as Bentley and Porsche.
Embracing a polarising new design philosophy termed “Exuberant Modernism,” the brand has radically updated its corporate identity, dropping its traditional leaping cat logo in favor of new, minimalist typography. The decision to unveil the car in New York underscores JLR CEO PB Balaji’s ambition to dramatically scale up the company’s footprint in the US market.
What to Expect from the Jaguar Type 01
When the camouflage finally comes off in October, the Type 01 is expected to be a gargantuan, imposing four-door GT measuring roughly 5.2 meters in length with a massive 3.2-meter wheelbase. Staying true to the Type 00 concept, the production car is expected to retain a strikingly long bonnet, upright front and rear sections, and potentially, the complete absence of a traditional rear window.
It will be based on the all-new, bespoke Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). While the brand has kept full technical specifications guarded, it has confirmed a few headline-grabbing figures:
- Powertrain: A sophisticated tri-motor, all-wheel-drive setup.
- Performance: Combined output exceeding 1,000 hp and over 1,300 Nm of torque.
- Range and Battery: A massive 120 kWh battery pack with a WLTP-certified range of over 700km.
- Charging: An 800V architecture capable of supporting 350kW DC fast charging, adding 321 km of range in just 15 minutes.
- Dynamics: Four-corner air suspension with twin-valve active dampers, rear-wheel steering, and advanced torque vectoring to manage its substantial mass.
