      What's good

      What's good

      • Blistering Performance: The 3.8s sprint makes it faster than cars costing twice as much.
      • Impeccable Safety: 5-star NCAP rating and the industry-leading Blade Battery.
      • Premium Cabin: The fit, finish, and tech feel genuinely luxurious and special.
      What's not so good

      What's not so good

      • Low Ground Clearance: Requires extreme care on Indian speed bumps and potholes.
      • Rear Ergonomics: The “knees-up” seating position isn’t ideal for tall passengers.
      • Screen-Dependent: Almost all functions (AC, mirrors) are buried in menus on the touchscreen.

The BYD Seal is a premium electric sedan in India that offers great performance and cutting-edge technology at a competitive price. It was launched in 2024 and boasts rapid acceleration, extended range, and advanced features, making it a strong rival to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. It stands out by its sleek design, high-tech interior, and BYD’s Blade Battery technology, which enhances safety and durability. Overall, the Seal is an excellent choice for people seeking a fast, feature-packed electric sedan.

      Expert Verdict

With its 0.219 Cd drag coefficient and a 530 HP dual-motor setup, BYD Seal proves that an electric vehicle can be both soulful and hyper-efficient. It is a bold, tech-heavy, and blazingly fast performance sedan.

      BYD Seal Design

      ★ 10/10

      Exterior

The BYD Seal is arguably the most aerodynamic and visually striking sedan currently on sale in India. Its “Ocean Aesthetics” design language, penned by former Audi designer Wolfgang Egger, focuses on fluid, organic lines. The “Double U” floating LED headlights provide a distinct “X” shaped front profile, while the ripple-effect DRLs on the bumper give it a futuristic glow. The fastback silhouette isn’t just for looks; it allows the car to achieve a drag coefficient of 0.219 Cd, which is vital for reducing wind noise and increasing high-speed efficiency. From the flush door handles to the dot-matrix LED light bar at the rear, every detail feels premium and purposeful.

      Interior

Step inside, and you are greeted by a “surround” cockpit that feels more like a modern lounge than a traditional car. The quality of materials, quilted vegan leather, soft-touch Alcantara, and double-stitched surfaces easily rivals premium luxury brands like Audi or BMW. The centerpiece is the 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, which remains the best conversation starter in the industry. The crystal gear lever is surrounded by high-quality tactile buttons for drive modes and climate, which adds a layer of class. The integrated sports seats offer heating, ventilation, and memory functions, ensuring you stay comfortable regardless of the outside temperature.

      Build Quality

The Seal feels exceptionally well put together. It utilises BYD’s Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology, which integrates the Blade Battery directly into the floorpan as a structural member. This doesn’t just save space; it creates a “sandwich” structure that increases torsional rigidity to 40,500 Nm/degree. On the road, this translates to a car that feels “made from a single block.” There are no creaks, no vibrations, and the “thud” from the doors is remarkably solid, rivalling the best European standards.

      BYD Seal Features

      ★ 8.5/10

The feature list is exhaustive and leans heavily into high-end tech.

      • Infotainment: The rotating screen runs on a high-speed processor, making the interface as fluid as a flagship smartphone. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
      • Audio: A premium 12-speaker Dynaudio system provides incredible acoustic depth, though it can be a bit bass-heavy for some tastes.
      • Convenience: You get dual wireless charging pads (perfect for driver and passenger), a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, and a massive Silver-plated panoramic glass roof.
      • The Quirks: One unique feature is the “swing” function for the AC vents, which can oscillate automatically. However, the lack of physical controls for mirror adjustments and basic vent direction, both of which are buried in the touchscreen, can be a bit of a distraction during a spirited drive. It can take some time for a new owner to get used to the functionalities, and it might get frustrating sometimes.

      BYD Seal Performance & Range

      ★ 10/10

The Seal is available in three variants in India, but the Performance AWD is the one that “shocks the system.”

      • Dynamic & Premium: The RWD models offer 201 hp and 313 hp, respectively, providing more than enough punch for daily driving and highway overtakes.
      • Performance AWD: This variant produces a staggering 530 hp and 670 Nm of torque. This allows the car to rocket from 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. The acceleration is immediate, silent, and relentless.

BYD’s Blade Battery (LFP chemistry) is known for its thermal stability and range honesty.

      • Premium RWD: Claimed 650 km (ARAI). In real-world Indian conditions, combining city traffic and 100 km/h highway cruising, you can reliably expect 530–550 km.
      • Performance AWD: Claimed 580 km. In our testing, pushing the car occasionally, it delivered a solid 460–480 km.

The efficiency is impressive, averaging around 15-16 kWh per 100 km, which is excellent for a car with this much power.

      BYD Seal Ride & Handling

      ★ 8/10

The Seal is a driver’s car first and foremost. Thanks to its 50:50 weight distribution and the low-mounted battery, it handles with remarkable poise.

      • Handling: It stays incredibly flat in corners, and the steering is quick and communicative. The top-end Performance variant even gets Frequency Selective Damping (FSD), which adjusts the stiffness based on the road surface.
      • Ride Quality: It is tuned for a European “firmness.” While it feels planted on highways, it can be a bit busy on broken city roads.

Ground Clearance: This is the most critical point. At 145 mm, the Seal is very low. You will have to approach large, unscientific Indian speed breakers at an angle (“the crab walk”) to avoid scraping the floor. It is a car that demands your full attention on anything but smooth tarmac.

      BYD Seal Safety

      ★ 10/10

Safety is where BYD makes its strongest statement. The Seal holds a 5-star Euro NCAP rating with particularly high scores for adult occupant protection.

      • Protection: It comes with 9 airbags, including a far-side airbag between the front seats and rear side airbags.
      • ADAS Level 2: The suite includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Prevention, and Emergency Lane Keeping. The 360-degree camera is one of the best in the business, offering a “transparent car” view that is essential given the low seating position.
      • Blade Battery: The LFP battery chemistry is significantly safer than traditional NMC batteries, passing the nail penetration test without catching fire or emitting smoke.

      BYD Seal Space & Comfort

      ★ 8/10

The Seal offers a useful 50-litre frunk under the hood, which is perfect for storing charging cables and keeping the main boot clean. The rear boot is 400 litres; while deep, it is quite narrow and shallow, so packing for a family of four requires some Tetris-like skills. The cabin space is impressive, with the 2,920 mm wheelbase providing massive legroom for rear passengers.

Because of the low roofline and the thick battery floor, the sitting posture is quite low. For the driver and front passenger, it feels sporty and supportive. However, in the rear, the high floor means your knees sit higher than your hips, which can affect long-distance comfort for taller adults. Headroom is adequate for anyone up to 6 feet, but taller passengers might feel the glass roof is a bit close.

      BYD Seal Charging & Warranty

      ★ 8.5/10

The charging and warranty package for the BYD Seal is built to give you both speed and peace of mind. When you are on a road trip, the car supports very fast 150 kW DC charging. This means you can go from 10% to 80% battery in just 37 minutes, basically the time it takes to grab a quick lunch. For your everyday driving, a standard 7 kW home charger will take about 12 to 15 hours to charge the battery completely, which is perfect for plugging in overnight while you sleep.

BYD also offers one of the best warranty plans in the luxury car world, showing how much they trust their technology. The most important part, the Blade Battery, is covered for 8 years or 1,60,000 km. The motor also gets 8 years of protection, and the entire vehicle is covered for 6 years. This long-term support is great because it removes the fear of expensive repairs down the road. It makes owning an electric car feel much safer and more reliable, ensuring that your investment is well-protected for many years to come.

      BYD Seal Service & Network

      ★ 6.5/10

As of early 2026, BYD has expanded its Indian network to nearly 50 touchpoints. While this covers most Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities, it still lacks the deep reach of legacy brands.

      • Maintenance: Being an EV, the service requirements are minimal. Intervals are long, primarily focusing on diagnostic checks and cabin filter replacements.
      • Support: BYD offers 6 years of Roadside Assistance as standard. The digital-first service approach means many minor software issues can be resolved via OTA (Over-the-Air) updates without a trip to the workshop.
