Best-Selling Electric Cars In India In June 2026: Tata, Mahindra And MG Lead The Way

India’s electric passenger vehicle market registered another strong month in June 2026, recording a total of 31,368 retail sales, which is an 11.1 % MoM(Month-on-Month) increase over the 28,223 units sold in May 2026.

The first half of 2026 has also been impressive for the Indian EV industry, with over 150,015 units sold between January and June. This is an 80.5 % YoY (Year-on-Year) growth when compared to 83,123 units during the same period in 2025. Here’s a detailed overview of the total EV sales in India for June 2026:

Tata Continues to Dominate the Sales Chart

Tata Motors’ Electric division managed to retain the ‘Best-Seller’ crown with over 12,023 units sold last month. This is a 10.8 % increase in MoM sales when compared to May 2026.

Currently, Tata has seven models in its EV lineup, which include the Tata Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Curvy EV, Harrier EV, and the Sierra EV. The brand has also launched the much-awaited Tata Sierra EV, so we expect to see a surge in its sales in the upcoming months.

Mahindra And MG Hold Strong

Mahindra Electric retained second place after selling 7,102 units, which is a healthy 16.8% MoM growth. MG Motor remained third with 5,785 units, registering nearly 10% growth over May 2026. We think that the increasing demand for the Windsor EV and Comet EV helped the brand maintain its momentum in this competitive space.

Maruti Suzuki, VinFast, And BYD Continue To Grow

Maruti Suzuki recorded another strong month with over 1,896 units, growing by 14% month-on-month, when compared to May 2026.

Just behind Maruti, VinFast maintained its fifth position with 1,394 units. That’s a 9.3 % increase in monthly sales, while BYD held onto sixth place with 860 units, up 15.1% from May. Also, BYD unveiled a new plug-in hybrid system for the Indian market that is expected to debut soon.

Premium Manufacturers On The Rise

Among premium manufacturers, BMW has seen a significant sales jump of 30.6% with 486 units in June, up from 372 units in May. While Mercedes’ sales growth is quite small, it is still in the top 10 list and sold 234 cars, which is a 9.34% increase in sales when compared to the 214 units from last month.

The Korean Downfall

The Koreans are having a hard time cracking the Indian EV market. Kia India remained eighth with 446 units. We think this is because the products Kia offers in India have a niche buyer. The EV6, and the EV9 are quite expensive, and the customers are sceptical to pay such high prices for the Kia badge.

Despite the recent launch of the new Hyundai Ioniq 5, Hyundai Motor experienced the biggest decline among the top 10 brands. Sales dropped from 472 units in May to 347 units in June, which is a massive 26.5 % fall, causing the company to slip to ninth place.

Our Take

June 2026 proved to be another important month for the Indian electric vehicle market. While Tata Electric continued to dominate with more than 12,000 sales, Mahindra Electric and MG Motor maintained strong momentum in second and third places. The market also saw good growth in sales from Maruti Suzuki, VinFast and BYD, while BMW has emerged as the fastest-growing premium EV brand with a 30.6% increase. With several high-profile launches, including the Tata Sierra EV, and the Tiago EV, we think that Tata won’t budge from the throne and will continue to keep the crown for some more months until something far more interesting and radical comes from its rivals
