World’s First Solid-State Electric Motorcycle Unveiled With 10-Minute Fast Charging

      Solid-State Electric Motorcycle

A small Finnish electric bike maker, Verge Motorcycles, has introduced a production electric motorcycle using solid-state battery technology. The bike, called the TS Pro, was recently unveiled and is claimed to be the first of its kind. The launch matters because solid-state batteries are seen as a key next step for electric vehicles, especially two-wheelers, where range, safety, and charging time remain major concerns.

      What Verge Built

The Verge TS Pro is a supernaked electric motorcycle designed around a solid-state battery pack. Unlike lithium-ion or LFP batteries used in most electric bikes today, this battery uses a solid electrolyte instead of liquid or gel. According to Verge, this design lowers fire risk and allows faster charging. The company has partnered with Donut Labs for the battery, though detailed information on the chemistry and production process has not been disclosed.

      Charging Advantage

One of the TS Pro’s key highlights is its charging capability. The bike supports CCS2 fast charging at up to 200kW. Verge claims this allows the battery to recharge from low to 80 per cent in about 10 minutes, provided a compatible high-output charger is available. This is significantly quicker than charging times seen on most electric motorcycles currently on sale.

      Battery Options

The TS Pro is offered with two battery pack choices, aimed at different riding needs.

      Battery Size Claimed Range
20.2 kWh Up to 350 km
33.3 kWh Up to 600 km

These figures are manufacturer claims and depend on riding conditions and usage.

      Motor Design

The TS Pro uses Verge’s hubless electric motor, which places the drive system directly in the rear wheel. Instead of a chain or belt, the motor works through electromagnets inside the wheel, interacting with permanent magnets on the rim. The motor produces 138 horsepower and a claimed 1,000 Nm of torque. Verge says this allows the bike to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in around 3.5 seconds. The motorcycle weighs 235 kg.

      Ride Features

To manage its performance, the TS Pro comes with adjustable regenerative braking, traction control, dual-channel ABS, and four riding modes: Range, Zen, Beast, and Custom. It also includes cruise control, heated grips, and adjustable footpeg positions. Suspension is fully adjustable, braking hardware comes from Brembo, and the bike runs on Pirelli tyres. A small storage compartment is located under the seat for basic items.

      Price Position

The Verge TS Pro is priced at 29,900 euros before taxes, delivery, and registration. In overseas markets, this places it close to high-performance petrol bikes such as the Ducati Streetfighter V4. While pricing limits it to a niche audience, Verge positions the TS Pro as a technology showcase rather than a mass-market product.

      Why It Matters

Electric motorcycles have struggled to match petrol bikes in range, charging speed, and real-world usability. The TS Pro addresses all three areas at once. If solid-state batteries prove reliable in real use, this technology could influence future electric motorcycles beyond Verge’s lineup.
