Tata launched the Sierra EV in India, and it marks the return of one of the most iconic nameplates in the Indian automobile industry, but in an electric avatar. At the launch event, Tata Motors revealed some very interesting details about the car, and here are the top 5 most interesting things about it:
1. It Retains The Iconic Sierra Design
The Tata Sierra EV’s design is inspired by the OG Tata Sierra from the 90s. It was the first Indian car to get the connected roof and quarter-glass panels, which made it stand out from the crowd. The new Sierra EV also gets the same treatment, just like the ICE Sierra, but has some distinguishing elements like the closed-off grille, and some aerodynamic tweaks to the front fascia. Its wheels also get a more aerodynamic design to maximise efficiency.
2. Gets More Than 650 km Of Range
The Tata Sierra EV is available in different powertrain options, and two battery packs: 63 kWh and 75 kWh. From the 63 kWh battery pack, the Tata Sierra EV gets a claimed range of 565 km on a single charge, which would be around 440-460 km of real-world range. From the 75 kWh battery pack, the claimed range is 665 km, and the true range here is around 510-530 km.
3. Gets QWD And RWD Powertrains
It gets two powertrain options: RWD and QWD, which is essentially an All Wheel Drive system. In the RWD setup, the Tata Sierra EV’s rear e-drive motor makes 175 kW of peak power, and 340 Nm of peak torque. The AWD setup adds to this with a front e-drive motor that puts out around 103 kW of peak power, and 164 Nm of torque. The combined torque output is rated to be about 504 Nm, which is massive.
4. A Premium Cabin With Triple Screens
The Tata Sierra EV comes with a triple-screen setup which includes a 10.25-inch instrument console and 12.5 inch infotainment screens for the infotainment and the passenger. These screens get all the advanced features like wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, EV route planner for Android Auto, and a full connected feature suite through iRA.ev with a 4-year free subscription.
5. Sits Between The Curvv.ev And The Harrier.ev
Tata Motors has positioned the Sierra EV between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV, giving the potential buyers another premium electric SUV option. With prices starting at just Rs 18.79 lakh, it rivals the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki eVitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, and MG ZS EV. And, it could also grab sales from Harrier EV’s and Curvv EV’s plates.
