The Indian electric vehicle market is rapidly expanding into larger family formats. While compact SUVs have dominated battery-powered sales so far, manufacturers are now scaling up their platforms. Tata Motors currently leads this transition and is preparing to electrify its flagship three-row vehicle. The Tata Safari EV has been spotted testing on public roads covered in heavy camouflage. Expected to launch this festive season, it shares the platform and powertrain with the Harrier EV. However, to justify its premium positioning as well as match rivals like the Mahindra XEV 9S, we expect Tata Motors might equip it with anupdated dashboard, including a triple screen setup that we have seen in the Tata Sierra EV.
A Tech Upgrade Inside: Triple Screen Setup In Tata Safari EV?
The most interesting detail from the latest spy shots involves the dashboard. The regular diesel Safari already features large screens, but the electric version seems to push the boundary further. Though not clearly visible, test mules hint at a triple screen layout spanning across the front console. This setup would include a dedicated entertainment screen directly in front of the front passenger. Tata originally showcased this three screen design for the Sierra EV. Adding this massive digital real estate to the Safari EV makes strategic sense. Its main rival, the Mahindra XEV 9S, offers a triple screen layout as a standard feature across all trims. Tata wants to make sure its flagship SUV does not fall behind in the technology race. Along with the screens, the cabin will likely feature Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and vehicle to load charging features.
Tata Safari EV Platform and Powertrain
Underneath the metal body, the Safari EV relies on the Acti.ev platform. This electric architecture also underpins the Harrier EV. Because these two SUVs share the same core structure, they will likely share battery and motor setups. The Safari EV will offer two large battery choices of 65 kWh and 75 kWh. The larger battery pack could easily push the certified driving range past the 500-kilometre mark. Furthermore, Tata is expected to equip the top variants with a dual motor system. This setup will give the SUV an all-wheel drive capability.
Tata Safari EV Exterior Design
While the test cars are wrapped in thick camouflage, the overall silhouette remains identical to the standard Safari. The electric version will maintain the bold, upright stance that buyers appreciate. However, Tata will introduce several visual tweaks to mark its electric identity. The front grille will be completely closed off for better aerodynamics. The lighting elements might get slight revisions, and the SUV will ride on new aerodynamically efficient alloy wheels. At the rear, the familiar connected LED taillights will remain largely unchanged.
