MG Cyberster and M9 Now Available With BaaS Pricing in India

      Quick reads

      • JSW MG Motor India has extended its Battery as a Service program to the premium Select outlet models.
      • The upfront cost of the Cyberster drops to Rs 72.49 lakh under the battery rental scheme.
      • The MG M9 luxury electric MPV now starts at Rs 69.99 lakh with the BaaS option.
      • Buyers opting for this program must pay a battery rental charge of Rs 8 for every kilometre driven.
      • Purchasing the vehicles outright without the scheme costs Rs 82.50 lakh for the Cyberster and Rs 79.94 lakh for the M9.
      • No mechanical or equipment changes have been made to either model.

The Indian electric vehicle market is witnessing a rapid expansion of alternative ownership models. Following the aggressive implementation of battery rental schemes in the mass market segment, JSW MG Motor India has now introduced its Battery as a Service program for its absolute top-tier models. The MG Cyberster electric roadster and the M9 luxury MPV, both sold exclusively through the premium MG Select dealership network, are now available with this flexible financial structure. This move aims to lower the psychological entry barrier for buyers looking at premium zero-emission mobility by significantly dropping the initial ex-showroom price.

      Pricing Economics and Rental Fees

Opting for the BaaS scheme fundamentally changes the acquisition math for both flagship vehicles. Standard pricing for MG Cyberster is quoted by the brand at an ex-showroom price of Rs 82.50 lakh. Under the battery rental programme, the upfront vehicle cost drops to Rs 72.49 lakh, which gives buyers a sizable reduction of Rs 10.01 lakh. Similarly, the MG M9 normally costs Rs 79.94 lakh, but with the BaaS option, it is priced at Rs 69.99 lakh through the BaaS route, resulting in a Rs 9.95 lakh upfront saving.

Owners who choose to get their premium MG vehicle in India with the BaaS program must pay a battery rental fee set at Rs 8 per kilometre driven.

Buyers can calculate their estimated annual running to determine if the long-term rental costs outweigh the immediate upfront savings.

Here is the complete pricing breakdown for both models under the outright purchase and BaaS schemes.

Model Outright Ex-showroom Price BaaS Ex-showroom Price Battery Rental Fee Upfront Savings
MG Cyberster Rs 82.50 Lakh Rs 72.49 Lakh Rs 8 per km Rs 10.01 lakhs
MG M9 Rs 79.94 Lakh Rs 69.99 Lakh Rs 8 per km Rs 9.95 lakhs

      Vehicle Specifications Remain Unchanged

MG has not altered the mechanical specifications or the equipment list for vehicles purchased under the BaaS scheme. The MG Cyberster continues to offer a high-performance dual-motor setup. It draws power from a 77 kWh battery pack that helps the electric motors generate 510 PS of power and 725 Nm of torque. This setup allows the roadster to accelerate from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in a blistering 3.2 seconds while claiming a driving range of up to 580 kilometres.

The M9 retains its position as a lavishly appointed electric MPV focused on chauffeur-driven buyers. Both vehicles continue to offer comprehensive advanced driver assistance systems and premium cabin materials regardless of the chosen ownership model.

      Conclusion

Introducing a battery rental scheme in the luxury segment is a bold experiment for MG Select. While mass market buyers often utilise BaaS to make everyday commuters more accessible, applying an Rs 8 per kilometre fee to a high-performance roadster and a luxury MPV tests a completely different consumer demographic. It provides luxury buyers with increased financial flexibility and insulates them from long-term battery degradation concerns.
