Third-Row Seating Details
The XEV 9S is Mahindra’s first three-row electric SUV. The third row suits average-sized adults on shorter trips, while taller passengers will find headroom tight. To keep everyone comfortable, the last row gets dedicated AC vents with blower control. It also has cup holders and charging points. With the third row folded, the boot grows to about 527 litres.
Performance and Driving Modes
All versions use a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle. The 79 kWh model is the quickest, reaching 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds, while the 59 kWh takes about 7.7 seconds. In addition, drivers can choose from Default, Range, Everyday, Race and Snow modes. A Boost Mode and single-pedal driving are also available, along with four regen levels (L0 to L3).
Charging Times by Battery Size
Each battery supports a different peak charging speed. The 59 kWh accepts up to 140 kW, the 70 kWh up to 160 kW and the 79 kWh up to 180 kW. Even so, all three charge from 20 to 80% in about 20 minutes on a fast enough charger. At home, Mahindra offers 7.2 kW and 11.2 kW wall boxes. For the 79 kWh version, these take about 11.7 hours and 8 hours respectively for a full charge.
Suspension, Tyres and Spare Wheel
Up front, the XEV 9S uses a McPherson strut with Mahindra’s i-Link setup and a stabiliser bar. At the rear, it gets a 5-link independent suspension. Also, disc brakes sit on all four wheels. It rides on 235/60 R18 low-rolling-resistance tyres and carries a T135/80 R18 space-saver spare. However, note that the space-saver limits your speed to about 80 km/h until the main tyre is fixed.
Warranty Cover
