Expert Verdict
If you are a driver who values performance and a “big-car” feel but needs something compact enough for city madness, the Mahindra 3XO presents a very compelling case, as it prioritises the “thrill of the drive” and passenger comfort.
Mahindra 3XO EV Design
Exterior
The 3XO EV has a very bold and aggressive look. Mahindra has moved away from the “safe” designs of the past. The front is dominated by a closed-off grille (since EVs don’t need air for an engine) and long, drop-down LED daytime running lights that make the car look very wide. At the back, you get a beautiful “infinite” LED light bar that stretches across the trunk.
It has 190mm of ground clearance, which is excellent for Indian roads. You can drive over giant speed breakers or through water-logged streets during the monsoon without any stress. The 17-inch “aero” alloy wheels look fantastic and are specially designed to reduce wind resistance, which helps the battery last longer. While the design is very modern, some people might find the front a bit busy or “too much”, but it definitely doesn’t look boring.
Interior
The cabin feels like it belongs in a car from a higher segment. You get two massive 10.25-inch screens, one for your music and navigation, and a digital one for the driver. The dashboard uses soft-touch materials, and the fit and finish are much better than those of older Mahindras.
However, keep in mind the ivory-white interior. While it looks very premium and makes the cabin feel huge, it is quite hard to keep clean. If you have kids or often travel in dusty conditions, you will need to be careful. The seats are supportive, and there are plenty of storage spots for your phone, wallet, and water bottles.
Build Quality
Mahindra is famous for making “tank-like” cars, and the 3XO EV follows that tradition. The doors have a heavy, solid “thud” when you close them. It is built using high-strength steel, giving it a very sturdy feel. Unlike some lighter electric cars that feel a bit “flimsy,” the 3XO EV feels anchored and safe.
Mahindra 3XO EV Features
Mahindra has loaded the 3XO EV with features that are usually only found in luxury cars.
- The Skyroof (Panoramic Sunroof): This is the only car in its class to offer a giant panoramic sunroof. It opens up the cabin and makes the rear seat feel much more spacious.
- Harman Kardon Audio: You get a premium 7-speaker sound system with Dolby Atmos. Whether you like podcasts or heavy bass, the sound quality is crisp and clear.
- Dual-Zone Climate Control: This is a segment-first feature. The driver can set their temperature at 18 degrees while the passenger keeps it at 24. It’s perfect for families who always argue about the AC!
- Adrenox Connectivity: With the built-in Alexa and the Adrenox app, you can start the AC from your phone before you even get in the car. It also has over 80 connected features like real-time tracking and geo-fencing.
- V2L (Vehicle-to-Load): You can use your car as a giant power bank. You can plug in a laptop, a coffee machine, or even another EV to give it a small charge.
The only small miss is that ventilated seats are only available in the top-end variant, which we think should have been offered in more models given the Indian heat.
Mahindra 3XO EV Performance & Range
The 3XO EV is incredibly fast. It uses a 39.4 kWh battery pack and an electric motor that produces 150 PS and a massive 310 Nm of torque.
The moment you press the pedal, the car moves forward without any delay. It can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 8.3 seconds, making it one of the quickest cars in its price range. It’s great for zipping through city traffic or making quick overtakes on the highway.
You get three driving modes:
- Fun (Eco): This is for relaxed driving and saving battery.
- Fast (Normal): The best mode for daily city use.
- Fearless (Sport): This is where the car shows its full power. The steering gets heavier, and the throttle becomes very sensitive.
The car has multiple levels of “regen.” This means when you lift your foot off the pedal, the motor acts like a generator and charges the battery. In heavy traffic, you can almost drive using just one pedal, which makes the commute much less tiring.
While the official range is over 450 km (MIDC), real-world numbers are more practical. In our testing, we got:
- City Driving: Around 280–300 km. The regenerative braking works very well in stop-and-go traffic.
- Highway Driving: About 230–250 km if you are cruising at 100 kmph.
For most people who drive 40–50 km a day, you would only need to charge the car once a week.
Mahindra 3XO EV Ride & Handling
The 3XO EV has a very “European” suspension feel. It uses Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD), which means the suspension adjusts based on the road.
- Low Speed: On bumpy city roads, the suspension feels a bit firm. You might feel sharp potholes a little more than in a softer car like the Brezza.
- High Speed: On the highway, this car is a champion. It feels completely planted and solid. There is very little “body roll” (the swaying feeling) when you take turns, making it feel very safe and stable.
The steering is light and easy to use in the city, which makes parking a breeze. One small complaint is that the turning circle is a bit wide, so you might need to be careful in very narrow U-turns.
Mahindra 3XO EV Safety
Safety is Mahindra’s biggest strength. The 3XO EV is built to be one of the safest cars in India. The Mahindra 3XO ICE version has scored a 5-star rating at the Bharat NCAP crash testing, and we can expect the same for the EV version as well.
- Standard Safety: Every model comes with 6 airbags, 4-wheel disc brakes, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
- ADAS Level 2: This is the big highlight. The car uses cameras and radar to keep you safe. It has Adaptive Cruise Control (it follows the speed of the car in front), Lane Keep Assist, and Automatic Emergency Braking. And, the ADAS features do work well in the Indian conditions.
- 360-Degree Camera: It gives you a bird’s-eye view of the car, which is very helpful when parking in tight spots. It also has a “Blind View Monitor” that shows you a camera feed of the lane next to you when you use your indicator.
Mahindra 3XO EV Space & Comfort
The 3XO EV is a genuine 5-seater.
- Front Seats: Very comfortable with plenty of adjustment. The view from the driver’s seat is great, making you feel like you’re in a big SUV.
- Rear Seats: This is the widest cabin in its class. Unlike most other compact SUVs, where three people in the back feel squeezed, the 3XO EV can actually fit three adults quite well. There is plenty of legroom even for tall passengers.
- Boot Space (Trunk): At 364 liters, the boot is practical but not the biggest. It’s perfect for daily use or two medium suitcases. If you have lots of luggage for a week-long trip, you might find it a bit tight.
Mahindra 3XO EV Charging & Warranty
You get the following charging options:
- DC Fast Charging (50 kW): You can go from 0% to 80% in about 50 minutes. This is perfect for long road trips.
- AC Fast Charging (7.2 kW): A full charge at home takes about 6.5 hours. You can just plug it in at night, and it’s ready by morning.
- Standard Wall Plug (15A): If you don’t have a fast charger, a regular plug will take about 13.5 hours for a full charge.
The charging options, especially the fast charging feels to be a bit limited and a higher capacity charger support can surely be added to reduce the time even further.
As for the warranty, Mahindra is offering an impressive 8 years / 1,60,000 kms warranty on the battery and motor. For the vehicle, there is a warranty of 3 years / unlimited kms.
Mahindra 3XO EV Service & Network
Mahindra has a massive network of over 400+ authorized touchpoints, making it one of the most accessible for an EV in India. You’ll find dedicated “EV Service Bays” and specially trained technicians at most major dealerships to handle high-voltage repairs. They offer predictive and remote vehicle diagnostics through the Adrenox system to catch issues before they become major problems. Mahindra’s service is reliable and accessible, but you should expect a busy environment. Always book your service via the app well in advance to avoid the “fully booked” frustration!
Who should buy this?
The 3XO EV is for the “Modern Urban Family.” If you want a car that is safe, incredibly fast, and packed with the latest technology, this is the one. It is perfect for people who mostly drive in the city but want a car that can comfortably handle a weekend highway trip.
It’s for the buyer who wants a “premium” experience without paying for a luxury brand. If you want the most powerful motor and the biggest sunroof in this price range, the 3XO EV is the king of its segment.
