Key Features of the 3XO EV AX5
The AX5 covers all the essentials well. Inside, it gets two 10.25-inch HD displays for infotainment and the driver, along with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Also, dual-zone automatic climate control and rear AC vents keep the cabin cool. For convenience, there’s a wireless charger, passive keyless entry, push-button start and cruise control. Meanwhile, Adrenox connected tech lets you control the AC and lock the car from your phone.
Safety on the Base Variant
Safety equipment is strong for an entry variant. It includes six airbags, ESP and disc brakes on all four wheels. Also, an electronic parking brake with auto hold and tyre pressure monitoring come standard. In addition, E-Call, an SOS button and a rear-view camera are included.
Charging Without the Wall Box
This version doesn’t include Mahindra’s 7.2 kW wall charger. So, at home, you’ll charge from a regular household socket, which takes about 13 to 15 hours for a full charge. On the road, a 50 kW DC fast charger takes the battery from 0 to 80% in about 50 minutes. Therefore, this version suits buyers who can charge overnight or have access to office or public chargers.
Performance and Range
The AX5 uses a 148 bhp front motor with 310 Nm of torque. As a result, it reaches 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds, which feels lively in city traffic. Also, you get three drive modes, Fun, Fast and Fearless, plus single-pedal driving. The claimed range is 351 km, while Mahindra quotes up to 285 km in real-world use.
AX5 or AX7L?
The AX7L costs Rs 1.07 lakh more. For that, it adds Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic skyroof and 7-speaker Harman Kardon audio. It also brings leatherette seats and 17-inch alloys. However, the battery, motor and range stay exactly the same. So, the AX5 is the smarter choice if you mainly want an affordable, practical city EV.
