Mahindra is working hard to redefine how small utility vehicles look in India. The automaker recently filed a design patent for the Mahindra Vision X. This is a brand new compact electric crossover that was first shown as a concept last year. The Vision X will not replace the existing Mahindra XUV 3XO. Instead, it will be positioned right above it as a more stylish alternative.
Mahindra Vision X Platform and Powertrain Flexibility
The Mahindra Vision X is the smallest vehicle to ride on the new NU IQ architecture. This modular skateboard platform is highly versatile. It can accommodate internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, and fully electric powertrains. We anticipate the electric variant to arrive first, followed closely by petrol and diesel options. Because the NU IQ setup was designed from the ground up to support battery packs, the Vision X will benefit from a long 2665 mm wheelbase, freeing up a lot of room inside the cabin.
Mahindra Vision X Exterior Styling
The patent images confirm that the final production car will look almost identical to the concept version. The design work is a joint effort between the Mahindra India Design Studio in Mumbai and the Advanced Design Europe team based in the United Kingdom. Unlike the upright and boxy shape of the XUV 3XO, the Vision X adopts a sporty coupe-like silhouette. It features a tapering roofline and flared rear haunches. The front end is mostly closed off, which is a common trait for electric vehicles, and it is framed by sharp LED lighting. Sleek outside mirrors and aggressive front and rear bumpers complete the aggressive look.
Mahindra Vision X Interior: Borrowed from Premium Siblings
Mahindra wants the cabin to feel much more expensive than the price tag suggests. To achieve this, the company is bringing features down from its larger electric models. Several interior elements are lifted straight from the BE 6 premium electric vehicle. This means buyers will get a massive dual-screen layout that houses both the driver display and the central infotainment system. The steering wheel design is also borrowed directly from the BE concept family. Offering this level of technology in a car that sits under four metres is a bold move. It helps justify a premium price tag while giving customers a screen- heavy, minimalist dashboard that rivals much more expensive cars.
What We Think About The Mahindra Vision X
With its sharp design and flexible NU IQ platform, the Mahindra Vision X promises to be a strong contender against rivals like the Tata Nexon, Kia Syros, and Maruti Brezza.
Production is expected to start in 2027, though we might see further details revealed around Independence Day in 2026. If Mahindra can keep the price between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 16 lakh, the Vision X could become a massive hit for buyers wanting style without the parking headaches of a large SUV.
