Ather Energy’s CEO, Tarun Mehta, announced the commencement of production of its all-new modular EL platform-based electric scooter in India. Ahead of its slated debut on this year’s Ather Community Day, taking place on August 29, 2026, the first assembly line snapshot of the production-ready model was showcased. The e-scooter is expected to gain high-volume sales, and give a tough time to market leaders.
The Ather EL01 Highlights:
The Ather EL01 project’s now-presented production-spec model closely follows the design attributes of the conceptual version earlier showcased in a teaser. The following are the key highlights of the Ather EL01 production-ready scooter designed for Indian markets:
New Modular Architecture: Designed around extensive data pooling, featuring 2.6 million kilometres of real-world testing data, the electric scooter’s modular architecture can incorporate 2 kWh to 5 kWh capacity battery packs with onboard charger configurations and a silent drive motor.
Strong Metal Panels: The new Ather electric scooter appears to feature a design that is driven away from the fitment of polymer panels (as seen on the 450 and Rizta line- ups), now featuring strong metal body panels. The use of metal panels can enhance the durability and vehicle appeal.
Ideal Ergonomics: The production-spec Ather scooter model of the EL01 concept features a handlebar-mounted headlight setup, LED DRLs fixed on the front apron, a flat and wide floorboard, and a long and single-pieced cushioned seating arrangement.
Large Tyres For Tall Stance: The showcased snapshot of the production-ready Ather scooter appears to feature a 14-inch front wheel, while the rear section houses a 12-inch wheel setup. That’s not all; the front wheels are complemented by a disc brake setup for effective control.
Meanwhile, the rear section features a drum brake, which should offer good braking performance.

Targeting the mid-level commuter segment, the new Ather scooter is expected to feature a price tag starting from Rs 1.00 lakh, ranging up to Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom prices):

Conclusion | The Expansion Process:
The commencement of the production of the EL platform-based Ather scooter is a reflection of the company’s market success, gathering a significant chunk of sales, featuring its current lineup. In fact, the company records sales of Ather scooters of around 31,000 units as of June 2026. With an 81 % year-on-year increase, registering over 2.94 lakh units in the preceding 12 months, the company is expecting to further increase the sales volume, especially with the new launches.
With the new Ather EL platform scooter slated for launch, the vehicle, when it hits the roads, will take on rivals such as the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Ola S1 X and the Hero Vida, among others.
