Indian buyers looking for a large family vehicle will soon have a brand new option to consider. JSW MG Motor India has officially marked August 28 for the arrival of the Hector Hawk. This vehicle sits right above the standard Hector in the company lineup. Based on the globally available Wuling Starlight 560, the new Hector Hawk will introduce a plug-in hybrid alongside a traditional electric powertrain.
Two Powertrain Choices
The biggest talking point of the Hector Hawk is what lies under the hood. The manufacturer is skipping standard petrol and diesel engines entirely. Instead, they will offer two new energy options built on their ADAPT architecture. The first is a pure electric model. It packs a 69.2 kWh battery and a front-axle electric motor generating 201 horsepower. This setup promises a driving range of about 530 kilometres (CLTC) on a single charge.
The second choice is a plug-in hybrid system. This version combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery pack. The hybrid powertrain produces a combined output of 195 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. For short city trips, the car can run entirely on electricity for up to 125 kilometres. When the battery runs low on long highway drives, the petrol engine takes over. The company claims this combination delivers a massive overall range of more than 1,000 kilometres from a full tank and a fully charged battery.
Size and Design
The Hector Hawk is a large vehicle. It measures 4,745 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,810 mm. This footprint makes it one of the most spacious options in its price bracket. The company will sell the car in both five-seat and seven-seat configurations.
Recent spy images of test vehicles reveal a clean exterior design. The front gets rectangular LED headlights paired with daytime running lights. The electric version features a completely closed-off front grille. Moving to the side, the car has a simple profile with a charging port located on the left rear fender. The rear section includes wraparound LED tail lights and a roof-mounted spoiler.
Interior and Features
Inside the cabin, the dashboard is minimalist and houses a large 12.8-inch central touchscreen. The driver also gets an 8.8-inch digital display for vehicle information. Keeping up with current market trends, the SUV is expected to offer a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a wireless phone charging pad. Passengers in the back will benefit from dedicated air conditioning vents. For safety, the car should include six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).
