Ather Energy has started rolling out a new voice command feature on its Gen 3 and above scooters. This was done nearly a year after it was first announced, at Ather Community Day 2025. Riders can now interact with their scooter using natural language commands, thereby reducing the need to manually operate the touchscreen while riding the scooter. It is being deployed through an over-the-air (OTA) software update and is currently available on compatible Gen 3 and newer Ather scooters.
Natural Conversation With Your Scooter
Unlike traditional voice functions that require fixed commands, Ather claims that the new system uses a large language model (LLM) capable of understanding Indian accents, dialects and conversational phrases. This makes it very easy for users with limited knowledge of english, or specific commands to operate the scooter easily. Riders can ask questions such as “How far is the nearest charger?” or request navigation directions, media controls and vehicle settings using normal day-to-day language.
This feature is not only limited to managing calls, notifications and music playback without taking hands off the handlebar, it is also useful in changing vehicle settings like traction control modes, regen modes, and even screen brightness level.
Works With More Than Just Halo Helmets
One of the key features of this system is its broader compatibility. It was initially associated with Ather’s Halo smart helmet but now works with generic Bluetooth headsets and helmet communication systems. This means riders using third-party Bluetooth devices can also access the same features without spending extra for a Halo helmet.

The feature is available only on Gen 3 and above models. However, the 450S and Rizta S are not currently included in the rollout.
Our Take
With Voice on Ather tech, the Bengaluru-based EV manufacturer took another step towards creating a more connected riding experience. While the feature may not be a deciding factor for buyers, it definitely adds to the brand’s growing list of software-based functions. Also, the use of these voice features might reduce the chance of an accident on the road, as it reduces the rider’s dependency on using the touchscreen, for which he had to leave the handlebar, thereby creating an unsafe situation.
