Tata Motors has begun testing the updated version of the Tata Tiago EV on Indian roads. The refreshed model is expected to arrive later this year, and recent spy shots give a clearer idea of what could change. The test car was heavily camouflaged, but a few design updates were easy to spot.
Key Upgrades
Exterior Changes
Up front, the Tiago EV appears to get a revised bumper and sharper headlamps. The lighting setup is likely to include LED units along with updated daytime running lights. As with most electric cars, the front grille remains closed off. At the rear, changes are expected in the bumper and tail lamp design. From the side profile, new alloy wheels can be seen. Even with these changes, the Tiago EV’s basic shape stays the same. The overall design still looks familiar.
Interior Updates
Inside, the updates are likely to be subtle. Expect a new seat fabric and a different colour theme to give the cabin a slightly refreshed look. There could also be a larger touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Other possible additions include a revised steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster. Spy images also suggest the presence of a rear wiper and washer, along with a shark fin antenna.
Battery and Range
Right now, the Tiago EV comes with 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh battery options. There is no official word yet on changes, but the update could include tweaks to the battery setup. Tata might look at offering a slightly bigger battery for more range and possibly quicker charging. It could also switch to newer prismatic cells, like the ones seen on the Punch EV. We should know more as the launch gets closer. For now, the Tiago EV is expected to continue as one of the more affordable electric hatchbacks on sale in India.
Price and Competitors
The updated Tata Tiago EV is expected to stay in the affordable EV segment. The present model costs between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 11.14 lakh (ex-showroom), and the facelifted version is expected to remain within this price range.
There is some flexibility regarding pricing. Recently, Tata Motors updated the cost of the Tata Punch EV, making it more competitive in the market. If Tata implements a similar pricing strategy for the Tiago EV, it could enhance its appeal in the entry-level electric vehicle segment. The Tiago EV will continue to compete with the MG Comet and the Citroen eC3, both of which target urban EV consumers looking for affordable and practical options.
What’s Next?
The updated Tiago EV seems to focus more on refinement than on introducing new concepts. Tata is dedicated to refreshing the Tiago EV without changing its core features, offering minor design upgrades, potential new features, and likely advancements in battery technology.
If Tata can successfully combine enhanced range, new features, and a competitive price, the Tiago EV could maintain its dominance in the affordable electric hatchback market. With its debut slated for the second half of 2026, it will be interesting to see if Tata can further strengthen its position in India’s expanding EV sector.
