In India, BYD has steadily built a reputation with practical and premium offerings like the Atto 3 SUV and the Seal sedan. However, on the global stage, the Chinese automaker is expanding its high-end portfolio. Unveiled as the latest addition to BYD’s premium sub-brand Denza, the Z9S is a fastback electric sedan that promises exciting performance and long-range touring.
BYD Denza Z9S Design and Dimensions
Unlike the previously revealed Denza Z9 GT, which adopts a grand-tourer rear end, the new Z9S trades that for a fastback coupe silhouette. Debuting in a unique ‘Dawn Purple’ shade, the sedan features dual star-shaped headlights and a closed-off front grille. Dimensionally, the length, width, and height of the Z9S are 5,090 mm, 1,980 mm, and 1,490 mm, respectively, while the wheelbase is 3,025 mm. Hence, it is a little compact compared to its cousin, the Denza Z9 GT.
Interior and Tech
Inside the car, there is the use of BYD’s state-of-the-art AI-based Intelligent Cockpit, which can listen and actually understand the driver’s commands. The interior dashboard of the car is mostly covered with a big, floating infotainment panel alongside a slim instrument cluster and a three-spoke steering wheel. Physical buttons are retained below the centre console for convenience. Rear passengers also receive dedicated attention with a separate seat control screen integrated into the centre armrest, while the seats feature a diamond-pattern design and new headrests.
Powertrain and Performance
Regulatory filings suggest that the Z9S will offer several variants with different power outputs. A standard version with a single rear-mounted electric motor produces 429 hp, while another single-motor variant offers up to 496 hp. Both of these versions draw power from a 102.3 kWh battery pack, delivering a claimed CLTC range of up to 571 miles (920 km). A tri-motor variant has also been listed on Chinese auto portals, generating a combined output of nearly 1,200 hp.
