VinFast, the leading Vietnamese car maker, will introduce electric two-wheelers in the Indian market in 2026. The company is now performing thorough feasibility studies to make sure its products are compliant with local standards, which was confirmed by one of the company’s top executives. This move comes right after the unveiling of two VinFast electric cars in India, which happened early this year.
VinFast India Strategy
VinFast regards India as an important market for its global growth and is willing to produce its products locally. The company has recently opened an assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, which is a part of the company’s overall plan to invest up to ₹16,000 crore in the Indian market. This localisation strategy clearly differentiates VinFast from other players who are merely focusing on selling.
Electric Scooter Lineup
The manufacturer offers a global lineup with more than six electric scooter models that will have different battery pack options and claimed range. VinFast has decided to bring its electric two-wheeler to the Indian market by introducing two models, first targeting well-established brands, like Bajaj, Ather, Hero Honda and competitive Indian markets.
Studies Underway Now
VinFast Asia CEO, Pham Sanh Chau, announced that the company has been conducting an extensive feasibility study and is doing its best to comprehend the specific requirements of the Indian market in collaboration with its partners. In addition, the current dealer network of their electric cars has shown very high interest in the distribution of the two-wheelers that will come next.
Broader Mobility Plans
VinFast has set up a more extensive mobility ecosystem apart from electric two-wheelers in India. Among the measures taken, the ride-hailing service is set to launch in the first quarter of 2026, targeting a similar success to that of the company’s operations in Vietnam. In addition, the company is negotiating with several state governments, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, to introduce electric buses.
Ecosystem Integration Goal
Vingroup is the parent company of VinFast, which is among the biggest companies in Vietnam. The group is evaluating the possibility of transferring its entire ecosystem to India. This grand vision covers a large extent of areas, namely mobility, education, healthcare, and hospitality, and with Vingroup’s large array of businesses in Vietnam, ranging from residential developments to universities, it can easily leverage its home country.
