BMW just gave a glimpse of the future of its electric lineup at the 2026 Indonesia Motor Show. The German automaker revealed the all-new BMW iX3, which gives us a clear look at where BMW is heading next. It is the first production car built on their brand new ‘Neue Klasse‘ foundation, a complete rethink of how they build electric cars. For Indian buyers waiting for a premium electric SUV that does not constantly need to be plugged in, the iX3 brings some big numbers to the table. It mixes a completely new look with serious battery tech, and it is expected to hit the Indian market in early 2027.
A Fresh Look and Slippery Shape
BMW has cleaned up the design for the new iX3. The front end gets vertical kidney grilles and slim LED headlights, leaving behind the heavy chrome of older models. The doors have flush handles, and the car features smooth body panels to help the car cut through the air better. BMW says the SUV has a drag coefficient of just 0.24, making it very aerodynamic.
The car is 4,782 mm long. In the back, you get a 520-litre trunk, which you can grow to 1,750 litres if you fold the rear seats down. Plus, there is a 58-litre storage space under the hood for extra bags or charging cables.
BMW iX3 Powertrain, Range, and Charging
The biggest talking point of the new iX3 is what powers it. The iX3 50 xDrive model comes with a large 108.7 kWh battery pack. BMW claims this battery will let you drive up to 805 km (WLTP claimed) before needing a charge.
The iX3 50 xDrive uses a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. These motors crank out 469 horsepower and 645 Nm of torque. If you put your foot down, the SUV will hit 100 km/h from a standstill in 4.9 seconds.
When you do need to plug in, the new 800-volt system will handle up to 400 kW DC fast charging. Under the right conditions, you can bump the battery from 10% to 80% in a quick 21 minutes. Even if you are in a rush, a 10-minute charge can add 372 km of driving range. The car also supports bidirectional charging, meaning you can use the car to power tools at your home.
Inside the Cabin
The cabin of the all-new iX3 is totally different from current BMWs. It features a clean and minimalist dashboard design, with the highlight being a massive 17.9-inch touchscreen right in the middle. BMW also added a display that projects information across the entire width of the windscreen. You also get an optional 3D head-up display, and the multifunction steering wheel sports a new design as well.
