Xiaomi launched the YU7 GT SUV in China, which is the brand’s most powerful and performance-focused model yet. This new electric SUV is priced starting at 389,900 Yuan (approximately Rs 55.15 lakh), where it directly takes on other premium electric performance SUVs from brands like Tesla, Porsche, and Audi.
You can also opt for the “GT Sports Kit” for better performance, which costs 34,000 Yuan (approx. Rs 4.80 lakh) extra. But for a limited-time promotional price, it is available at 14,000 yuan (approx. Rs 2.02 lakh), which is a steal. The fully-equipped “Big Full Pack” version is priced at 429,900 Yuan (approx. Rs 60.67 lakh).
The new Xiaomi YU7 GT is based on the same platform as the standard YU7, but gets a lot of upgrades for outright performance. It is driven by a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup, which makes a combined peak power of 738 kW (990 hp). Xiaomi claims a top speed of a staggering 300 kmph for the YU7, making it one of the fastest production electric SUVs.
Performance numbers are equally dramatic, just like its looks. The claimed 0 to 100 kmph acceleration time for the YU7 GT is under three seconds, which places it firmly in supercar performance territory, despite being a large family-sized SUV. The YU7 GT uses Xiaomi’s latest HyperEngine V8s EVO rear motor for improved efficiency and performance.
It is powered by a 101.7 kWh battery pack, which gives it a claimed CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) range of up to 705 km on a single charge. Xiaomi has also equipped the YU7 GT with an 800V electrical architecture that supports ultra-fast charging, where the big battery can juice up from 10 to 80% in just 12 minutes under ideal conditions, which is quite convenient as well.
To handle the spirited driving and the racetrack (sometimes, or if you are rich enough, every day!), the YU7 GT gets a major chassis upgrade. These upgrades include dual-chamber air suspension, electronically controlled dampers, an electronic limited-slip differential, and upgraded aerodynamic components. The suspension is said to be tuned exclusively for the racetrack.
And, to prove all of this, Xiaomi just put it to the test at the Nurburgring, where the YU7 lapped the legendary racetrack in just 7 minutes and 34.93 seconds, beating the Audi RS Q8 Performance and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. With this record, the Xiaomi YU7 is currently the fastest production electric SUV in the world.
What We Think
The Xiaomi YU7 GT shows just how quickly Chinese EV manufacturers are evolving. A few years ago, the idea of a smartphone company building a Nurburgring-record-holding SUV would have sounded vague and unrealistic. But today, it’s not only challenging established performance brands but also beating them on their own turf. What makes the YU7 GT so special is its frantic performance, which comes at a relatively affordable price tag when compared to the Europeans. If Xiaomi eventually expands globally, traditional luxury performance brands could face far more pressure than they expected.
