      • Features like a twin-display setup, alloy wheels, and LED headlamps come standard, while the top-spec variant is exclusively fitted with a Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic roof, a 360 degree camera, and ventilated front seats.

The mid-size electric SUV space has a compelling new entrant with the arrival of Toyota’s first electric vehicle, the Urban Cruiser Ebella. The vehicle places a strong focus on interior space, advanced safety, and competitive driving range in the Indian market.

While it is essentially a badge-engineered version of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Toyota has positioned it on the more premium end of the segment.

Let’s break down the differences between all the variants of the Urban Cruiser Ebella, while also comparing it with segment rivals, to help you make an informed decision.

Overview: The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella at a Glance

      The official price has only

been revealed for the top-spec E3 variant of the Urban Cruiser Ebella at Rs. 23.60 Lakh. We have shared estimated prices of the lower trims based on the variant price gaps of its Maruti counterpart.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella: Variant-by-Variant Analysis

      1. Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella E1 (The Base Trim)

The E1 trim serves as the entry point to the Ebella lineup. While it is a base variant, Toyota has avoided stripping away essential exterior and interior elements. It uniquely retains premium 18-inch machine-cut alloy wheels as standard equipment, while the interior carries the same high-res twin display and connectivity features as the top trim.

Key Features of the E1 Trim:

      • Exterior: Auto LED headlamps with LED DRLs, 18-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers,
      • Interior and Convenience: Keyless entry and go, leather-wrapped steering wheel, height-adjustable driver seat, 40:20:40 split rear seats with sliding and reclining function, TPMS, auto climate control with rear AC vents, ambient lighting, air purifier, and electronically operated tailgate
      • Infotainment: 10.1-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch driver’s display, driving audio commands on the steering wheel, connected car features with Toyota’s i-CONNECT application suite, and a 4-speaker sound setup.
      • Safety: Seven airbags (driver, passenger, front side, curtain, and driver knee), ABS with EBD, Hill Hold Control, multi-collision braking, and front/rear parking sensors.

      2. Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella E2 (The Mid Trim)

The E2 variant primarily unlocks the larger 61 kWh battery setup, pushing the certified range up to 543 km.

Key Features of the E2 Trim (In addition to E1):

      • Interior and Convenience: Wireless smartphone charging and a luggage shelf.
      • Safety: Dedicated rear camera.

      3. Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella E3 (The Flagship Trim)

The E3 trim transforms the Ebella experience, adding a host of high-end features.

Key Features of the E3 Trim (In addition to E2):

      • Exteriors: Auto-leveling headlamps, and optional dual-tone exterior paint schemes.
      • Interior and Convenience: Leather-fabric blended upholstery, ventilated driver and front passenger seats, power-adjustable driver seat, and a panoramic fixed glass roof.
      • Safety: Complete Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) package including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitor, and Pre-Collision System. It also adds an adaptive high beam system and a 360-degree camera.
      • Infotainment: Premium JBL sound system featuring a dedicated subwoofer, tweeters, and an IP speaker.

Urban Cruiser Ebella Rival Comparison: How Does It Stack Up?

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella enters a highly competitive mid-size EV segment, going head-to-head with established players like the Tata Curvv EV and the newly launched Hyundai Creta EV. Here is how the Ebella’s top-spec E3 trim compares to its primary rivals in their respective long-range guises.

Top-Spec Price Rs. 23.60 Lakh Rs. 19.49 Lakh Rs. 24.70 Lakh

Pros and Cons of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella

      Pros:

      • Handsome Exterior Design
      • Long list of comfort and safety features
      • Long wheelbase and segment-first inclusion of sliding and reclining rear seats, allowing owners to tailor the cabin layout
      • 543 km of claimed range is amongst the highest in the class
      • Toyota’s reputation for reliability and fuss-free after-sales service

      Cons:

      • Boot space is noticeably restricted, especially when the sliding rear bench is pushed all the way back to accommodate taller passengers
      • Headroom and under-thigh support is limited for rear seat passengers
      • Missing features like V2L, one-pedal driving, and seat memory
      • Despite being a mechanical twin to the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, the Ebella commands a noticeable brand premium, forcing buyers to pay extra primarily for Toyota’s styling tweaks, badges, and specific ownership packages

Conclusion: Which Toyota Ebella Variant Makes Sense?

For budget-conscious buyers who want zero compromises on safety and road presence, the E1 trim is incredibly robust, given that it retains crucial safety features right out of the gate alongside a comprehensive suite of infotainment features as the top-end variant.

The E2 trim is particularly for those people who want a higher driving range and don’t want to pay the price for the top-end variant.

The E3 trim is the definitive choice for the premium experience. It adds a notable number of upscale features, including Level 2 ADAS. However, it’s more like an option extra for buyers willing to upgrade, as even the standard variants suffice for all the essential features.

Do note that Toyota charges a notable premium for the Urban Cruiser Ebella over the e-Vitara, with both vehicles being nearly identical apart from an exterior design distinction. Therefore, for value-conscious buyers, the Maruti is still the more VFM choice of the two.
